The all-new Freelander 8 full-size mid-size SUV, co-developed by Chery Automobile and Jaguar Land Rover, has officially opened for pre-order in China. The vehicle is offered in five different versions: the entry-level five-seater starts at 339,900 yuan (approximately US$50,000), while the limited-edition top-of-the-line First Edition has a suggested retail price of 459,900 yuan (US$67,600), reduced to 449,900 yuan (US$66,200) as part of a limited-time promotional offer.

According to official information, the other versions are offered at the following prices: Max+ at 429,900 yuan, Max at 379,900 yuan, and Pro at 349,900 yuan. It should be noted that all versions are based on an 800V high-voltage plug-in hybrid platform, equipped with a CATL Freevoy lithium-nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) battery with a capacity of 60.3 kWh, offering an all-electric CLTC range of 310 km. The system also supports 6C ultra-fast charging: going from 20% to 80% charge takes only 12 minutes.
In terms of onboard technology, the Freelander 8 is among the first production vehicles in the world to integrate the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 automotive chip and comes standard with the HUAWEI Qiankun ADS 5 system. Its exterior design is directly inspired by the boxy lines of the Concept 97 concept car, with a closed grille and rectangular LED headlights. Three exclusive colors, designed under the global art direction of Phil Simmons, are available: "Heat Sensitive Lemon Gold," "Fluid Silver Grey," and "Twilight Purple."

The interior features a 46.3-inch remote projection screen and a central 15.6-inch LED touchscreen. Physical controls adopt a "Clous de Paris" pattern, while the two suspended rotary knobs are crafted from K9- grade optical crystal , each piece boasting 144 precise facets. The rear seats offer a dual "zero gravity" system with integrated heating, ventilation, massage, and leg rests, as well as a fold-down tray table and an onboard refrigerator. A separate multimedia screen is provided for rear passengers, while the third row benefits from cupholders and adjustable-recline seats.
The powertrain combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine operating in generator mode with an all-wheel-drive system powered by two electric motors, delivering a combined maximum output of 610 kW (818 hp) and a maximum torque of 813 N·m. The rear axle incorporates a 250 kW two-speed electric motor, delivering a maximum wheel torque of 8,000 N·m. The vehicle also features the intelligent i-ATS all-terrain management system, co-developed by Chery and Huawei , which includes three electronic differentials (front, center, and rear), as well as ±10° all-wheel steering, enabling a "crab" mode. The braking system uses six-piston fixed calipers and 404 mm ventilated discs, providing emergency stopping distances from 100 km/h to a minimum of 35.7 meters.
