DENZA Z9S Spied in the Wild: Tri-Motor 890 kW, 780 km CLTC Range

Recently, the first real-world images of the DENZA Z9S surfaced publicly. As a derivative model of the DENZA Z9 lineup, the new vehicle adopts a more sporty and youth-oriented positioning. Its dimensions are more compact, while both exterior and interior embrace an all-new design language. Powertrain performance and range capabilities have also been further upgraded. The model has not yet been officially unveiled and remains at the prototype display stage; its market launch timing has not been confirmed, though industry insiders widely expect it to hit the market in 2026.

Exterior styling sets the DENZA Z9S apart significantly from the current Z9: a roof-mounted LiDAR unit is integrated; the front fascia features a split lighting layout — dual horizontal LED daytime running lights sit above, while main headlights are vertically oriented on either side of the lower bumper. The front bumper employs a full-width panel paired with a two-section front lip, enhancing its low-slung visual stance. Side profile retains the fastback silhouette, with blacked-out windows, flush door handles, large-diameter alloy wheels, and yellow high-performance brake calipers underscoring its dynamic character. Overall dimensions measure 5090 mm × 1980 mm × 1490 mm (L×W×H), with a 3025 mm wheelbase — representing reductions of 145 mm in length, 10 mm in width, 28 mm in height, and 100 mm in wheelbase versus the current Z9.

Inside, the DENZA Z9S debuts a new three-spoke steering wheel; the digital instrument cluster remains embedded within the center console, now framed by straighter piano-black trim lines. A large floating central infotainment screen stays central, while updated air vent designs flank it. Door-mounted speaker zones receive enhanced decorative treatment. Physical control buttons remain beneath the center stack, covering core functions including automated parking, Yi San Fang, and Yun Nian systems. Seats feature a new diamond-quilt pattern; headrests are redesigned for improved ergonomics; and the rear center armrest integrates a seat control touchscreen, boosting human-machine interaction convenience.

The powertrain is confirmed as fully electric, offering two configurations: a rear-mounted single motor and a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system. The single-motor version delivers peak output of 370 kW, while the tri-motor AWD variant achieves a combined output of 890 kW. Both variants use the same 102.326 kWh battery pack, delivering CLTC-rated ranges of 920 km and 780 km respectively. Notably, the tri-motor version will incorporate DENZA's "Yi San Fang" technology — though specific technical details and production rollout timelines remain undisclosed.

As a new strategic model under the joint venture brand DENZA — co-established by BYD and Mercedes-Benz — the Z9S sharpens focus on performance and intelligent features despite its downsized footprint, aiming to capture the premium pure-electric coupe segment. Final product specifications, pricing strategy, and delivery schedule await official confirmation.
