Volvo EX90 and ES90 Dual Flagships Launch: Starting at ¥459,900

Built on the SPA2 Pure-Electric Architecture, Featuring Standard High-Level Intelligent Driving and Comprehensive Three-Powertrain Safety Systems

Recently, Volvo officially unveiled two all-new pure-electric flagship models—the mid-to-large-size intelligent luxury SUV EX90 and the mid-to-large-size intelligent luxury sedan ES90—marking a new phase in the brand’s electrification strategy in China. The EX90 is offered at a limited-time recommended premium price of ¥459,900–¥529,900; the ES90 launches in two trims priced at ¥389,900 and ¥459,900, with deliveries starting immediately.

Design & Space: Nordic Minimalism, Electrified

The EX90 features an all-new closed shield-shaped front fascia, integrating the iconic ‘seatbelt’ logo and 2.6-million-pixel intelligent Thor’s Hammer LED headlights; its rear emphasizes horizontal extension and clean lines. Its dimensions measure 5037 × 1964 × 1747 (1942) mm, with a wheelbase of 2985 mm and a 46L front trunk. The ES90 retains the executive proportions of the S90, measuring 5000 × 1942 × 1553 mm with a class-leading wheelbase of 3102 mm, plus a 27L front trunk and a 409L liftback cargo area—significantly enhancing practicality.

Intelligent Cockpit & Safety: Full-Stack In-House Development + End-to-End Protection

Both models are built on Volvo’s native SPA2 premium pure-electric architecture and feature standard 800V high-voltage platforms and full-aluminum chassis. The cockpit is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chips, a 9-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch vertical central touchscreen, and a 13.2-inch head-up display. Pilot Assist navigation assistance and DUS driver awareness systems come standard across all trims. For safety, beyond conventional high-strength body structures, both models integrate ASL air purification, multi-layer battery pack protection, and industry-leading battery thermal runaway early-warning technology.

Performance & Range: Efficiency Meets Luxury Driving Dynamics

The EX90 features dual-motor all-wheel drive across all variants, paired with a 106 kWh ternary lithium battery, delivering up to 756 km CLTC range. The Ultra trim adds a 4C adaptive chassis, intelligent dual-chamber air suspension, and CCD continuously variable damping shock absorbers. The ES90 offers two powertrains: rear-wheel drive (245 kW / 777 km) and dual-motor AWD (500 kW / 848 km), achieving 0–100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. All trims include FSD continuously variable damping shock absorbers, while higher trims support dual-chamber air suspension.

Market Positioning: Competing Head-On with BBA and Top Domestic New Energy Brands

The EX90 targets premium mid-to-large electric SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV; the ES90 directly competes with luxury electric sedans like the BMW i5. At launch, six exclusive owner benefits were introduced—including deposit doubling (¥5,000 deposits count as ¥10,000), trade-in incentives (¥10,000–¥50,000), lifetime complimentary basic maintenance, and an eight-year or 160,000-km warranty covering the three-powertrain systems—to reinforce long-term ownership confidence.
