Leaptmotor Pengcheng Extended-Range SUV Starts Pre-Orders at ¥259,900; Lei Jun Calls It 'One of the Best Under ¥500,000'

In its fifth year of vehicle manufacturing, leapmotor officially enters the extended-range segment. On the evening of July 30, leapmotor unveiled its new 'Pengcheng' series at a technology launch event — built on the in-house-developed Kunlun architecture, refined over three and a half years. The debut models are the N70 Max and N90 Max extended-range SUVs. Lei Jun stated on-site: 'This is one of the best extended-range SUVs under ¥500,000.'

Positioning-wise, the N90 Max is a flagship 7-seater extended-range SUV: 5,285 mm long, 3,080 mm wheelbase, with a 2+2+3 seating layout. The N70 Max is a spacious 5-seater: 4,960 mm long, 2,950 mm wheelbase. Both emphasize 'spatial freedom': full-width flat floor (inclination only 2.95°), six aluminum sliding rails up to 1,938 mm long, second- and third-row seats each offering 900 mm of travel, enabling 18 configurable interior layouts — including face-to-face meeting mode, bed mode, and office mode — all switchable via Xiao Ai voice commands.

Pricing starts at ¥259,900 for the N70 Max and ¥299,900 for the N90 Max. A ¥1,000 deposit secures a pre-order starting now, with official launch and first deliveries scheduled for September. Standard equipment across the lineup includes the NVIDIA Thor chip (700 TOPS computing power), forward-facing LiDAR, 4D millimeter-wave radar, 11 high-definition cameras, and leapmotor's HAD driver-assistance system. The N90 Max adds a rear-facing solid-state LiDAR to enhance blind-spot detection behind large vehicles.

Range performance stands out as a key highlight: The N70 Max packs a 76 kWh battery delivering up to 505 km CLTC all-electric range — currently the highest among extended-range models — with a combined range of 1,461 km and a fuel consumption of just 6.1 L/100 km in charge-sustaining mode. The N90 Max achieves 464 km CLTC all-electric range, 1,705 km combined range, and 6.26 L/100 km in charge-sustaining mode. Both models accept 92-, 95-, and 98-octane gasoline; Lei Jun emphasized mandatory 92-octane compatibility, noting that 'a full-charge, full-tank trip from Shanghai to Beijing requires no mid-journey refueling or recharging.' Dual-motor AWD delivers peak power of 310 kW — enabling 0–100 km/h acceleration in 5.5 seconds for the N70 Max and 5.9 seconds for the N90 Max.

Chassis features include standard front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension, plus five-level adjustable air springs and CDC electromagnetic dampers. The N90 Max also offers 6.6 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) external power output. Safety relies on the 'Longjia Battery System' with 18-layer structural protection; body structure uses 90.4% high-strength steel and aluminum. The N90 Max further integrates 16 sections of 2,200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel and 12 airbags, with wading depth rated at 750 mm and emergency flotation capability. The intelligent cockpit runs on the 4 nm third-generation Snapdragon 8 chip, featuring a 16.1-inch 3K central touchscreen; optional extras include a 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen, 9-liter compressor fridge, and a 25-speaker premium audio system. Exterior colors offered: Far Mountain Green, Butterfly Valley Blue, and Volcanic Ash Gray.

In response to questions about entering the extended-range market 'too late,' Lei Jun replied, 'It's not too late. The extended-range segment remains far from saturated — sales of Li's new L6 continue climbing, proving users will pay for high-quality extended-range products.' To date, 566 test vehicles have completed 4.28 million km of road testing across 31 provinces and 194 cities nationwide. Over 10,000 units are already pre-stocked at factories, targeting immediate delivery upon September launch.
