Volkswagen has officially launched pre-sales of the entry-level ID. Polo electric vehicle in Europe, marking an acceleration of its strategy of affordable electric vehicles for urban commuters. The vehicle is equipped with a 37 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, has a starting price of €24,995 (approximately $29,000), and offers a WLTP range of 334 km (207 miles). It is Volkswagen's key model in countering the rapid growth of Chinese brands BYD and Chery in their home market.

Earlier, at the end of April, Volkswagen unveiled the ID. Polo with a 52 kWh three-component battery, with a starting price of €33,795. Just a few weeks later, the company announced the imminent launch of a more affordable version and delivered on its promise: reservations for the ID. Polo Trend with a 37 kWh battery are already open in several European countries this month. Reportedly, over 25,000 orders were received for the entire ID. Polo lineup during the initial sales phase, demonstrating strong market interest in Volkswagen's compact electric vehicles.

The new model is offered in three trim levels: Trend, Life, and Style. The base Trend version includes Side Assist blind-spot monitoring and Lane Assist as standard. The Life trim level also includes adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, parking sensors, and a front cross-traffic alert system. The top-of-the-line Style trim level features IQ.LIGHT matrix LED headlights, 3D LED taillights, and illuminated VW logos front and rear.

The interior utilizes Volkswagen's new design concept: a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch Innovision central display are standard; physical buttons are also retained for increased ease of use. The car's dimensions are 4053 x 1816 x 1530 mm, with a wheelbase of 2600 mm, which is similar to the petrol Polo; however, the flat battery pack design significantly improves the efficiency of interior space.

The powertrain is available in three output levels: 85 kW (114 hp), 99 kW (133 hp), and 155 kW (208 hp). The 85 and 99 kW versions are powered by a 37 kWh LFP battery, while the high-performance 155 kW version is equipped with a 52 kWh three-component battery. An electric hot-rod version of the ID. Polo GTI with 166 kW (223 hp) is also planned for release this fall. The ID. Polo is also one of the first Volkswagen models to feature vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) power as standard, with a maximum output of 3.6 kW.
