Volkswagen ID. Polo Entry Model Launches: 37 kWh Battery, from €24,995 — Direct Challenge to Chinese EVs

Volkswagen has officially opened pre-orders for the entry-level ID. Polo in Europe, marking an accelerated rollout of its high-value, urban-focused all-electric strategy. Equipped with a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, the model starts at €24,995 (approximately $29,000), delivering a WLTP-rated range of 334 km (207 miles) — positioning it as Volkswagen's key countermeasure against rapidly expanding Chinese brands BYD and Chery in their home market.

Earlier, in late April, Volkswagen launched the ID. Polo with a 52 kWh NMC battery, starting at €33,795. Just weeks later, the automaker confirmed plans for a more affordable variant — and delivered: the 37 kWh ID. Polo Trend is now available for booking across multiple European countries. Reports indicate over 25,000 orders have already been placed for the full ID. Polo lineup since its initial launch, underscoring strong market interest in Volkswagen's new electric compact.

The model comes in three trims: Trend (entry), Life, and Style. The Trend trim includes standard driver-assist features such as Side Assist (blind-spot monitoring) and Lane Assist (lane-keeping assistance). The Life trim adds adaptive cruise control, rearview camera, parking distance control, and front cross-traffic alert. The top-tier Style trim features IQ.LIGHT matrix LED headlights, 3D taillights, and illuminated VW logos front and rear.

Inside, all variants adopt Volkswagen's latest design language, featuring a standard 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch Innovision infotainment touchscreen — while retaining physical buttons for improved usability. At 4,053 × 1,816 × 1,530 mm (L×W×H) with a 2,600 mm wheelbase, the ID. Polo closely mirrors the dimensions of its combustion-engine Polo sibling; however, its flat battery pack layout significantly improves interior space utilization.

Three power outputs are offered: 85 kW (114 hp), 99 kW (133 hp), and 155 kW (208 hp). The 85 kW and 99 kW versions pair with the 37 kWh LFP battery, while the high-performance 155 kW variant uses the 52 kWh NMC battery. Additionally, a 166 kW (223 hp) ID. Polo GTI electric hot hatch is slated for launch this autumn. Notably, the ID. Polo is among Volkswagen's first models to include vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality as standard — delivering up to 3.6 kW of external power output.
