Xpeng GX Modified into 'Domestic Range Rover' Sparks Online Buzz

Recently, a Xpeng GX was deeply modified in China to closely emulate the styling of Land Rover's all-new Range Rover — sparking widespread online discussion. This vehicle is not an official collaboration or special edition, but rather a bespoke customization project executed by third-party design studio Sugar Design.

Publicly shared images show this Xpeng GX fitted with extensive bronze-colored trim pieces covering the U-shaped side door garnishes, wheel rims, and roofline contour. Both front and rear bumpers feature "RANGE ROVER" badges — deliberately heightening visual ambiguity. Most notably, the two-spoke steering wheel bears engraved "RANGE ROVER" lettering — a detail netizens jokingly dubbed "a self-affirmation for spiritually Range Rover-owned drivers."

As Xpeng's flagship full-size intelligent electric SUV, the GX measures 5265 × 1999 × 1800 mm with a 3115-mm wheelbase — slightly longer than the long-wheelbase Range Rover (5251 mm) by 14 mm. Its drag coefficient is as low as 0.255 Cd. Standard configuration includes a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, with trunk capacity of 673 liters (expanding to 1748 liters with the third row folded).

In intelligent driving, the GX offers four AI-assisted driving tiers: Max (750 TOPS), Ultra SE (1500 TOPS), Ultra (2250 TOPS), and L4 Robo (3000 TOPS). The L4 Robo variant is scheduled for delivery starting Q2 2026, featuring Bosch steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire systems, dual-chamber air suspension, and rear-wheel steering with a maximum angle of 7.5°.

Powertrain options include both EREV and pure-electric variants: The EREV version uses a 1.5L range extender, with dual motors delivering a combined peak output of 370 kW (496 hp), paired with a 63.3 kWh battery — offering a CLTC all-electric range of 430 km and a total range of 1585 km. Pure-electric models come in rear-wheel drive (270 kW / 362 hp + 91.9 kWh / 665 km CLTC) and all-wheel drive (430 kW / 577 hp + 110 kWh / 750 km CLTC) configurations.

The Xpeng GX is currently priced in China from RMB 279,800 to RMB 359,800, while Land Rover's Range Rover starts at RMB 1,412,000. According to China EV DataTracker, the Xpeng GX delivered 21,025 units in China between May and August 2026 — though no official data confirms how many were customized into "Range Rover-style" builds.
