Xpeng L03 Unveiled in Munich, Targets Model Y

Munich, Germany — Xpeng Automotive officially launched the L03 in Munich in July 2026 — its smallest SUV to date and a mid-to-large-size fastback-style crossover designed to compete in Europe's fiercely contested mid-to-large SUV and crossover segment against Tesla Model Y.

The L03 features a five-seat layout and debuts Xpeng's next-generation intelligent driving assistance system, Next Generation Pilot (NGP) VLA 2.0 — powered by three in-house Turing AI chips delivering a total computing power of 2,250 TOPS. Designed specifically for complex urban scenarios, the system supports ADAS functions and is calibrated for European traffic regulations and driving habits.

Xpeng states that the system achieves SAE Level 2++ automation in Europe — meaning drivers must continuously monitor road conditions and remain ready to take control at any time. This capability tier aligns with the 'supervised full self-driving' approval granted to Tesla in select European markets.

Exterior design was led by former Ferrari exterior design director JuanMa López; the interior prioritizes comfort and digital connectivity. The vehicle runs the new XOS 6 smart cockpit platform — making Xpeng the first Asia-Pacific automaker to offer native Google Maps integration in Europe, delivering localized navigation interfaces and high-precision map data.

Powertrain options include battery electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) variants. The BEV version delivers up to 520 km WLTP range; the EREV version offers over 1,000 km combined range. Fast charging enables 10–80% state-of-charge in approximately 20 minutes. German market starting prices are €35,600 for the BEV and €38,600 for the EREV — both priced below the entry-level Model Y (€39,990).

The L03 measures 4,650 mm in length and has a 2,850 mm wheelbase, with a drag coefficient as low as 0.228 — comparable to Model Y (0.23). Interior features include a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, HUD head-up display, AI climate control, active noise cancellation, and front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Trunk capacity stands at 539 liters; the BEV version adds a 102-liter front trunk. Rear seats fold 40/20/40, and maximum towing capacity reaches 1,500 kg.

Xpeng plans to begin importing the L03 to Europe from China starting in early 2027 — though it will face an additional 21% import tariff. Data shows Xpeng's cumulative production surpassed one million units by November 2025. From January to May 2026, its European sales surged 113% year-on-year to 14,276 units — driven primarily by the G6 (9,838 units) and G9 (4,154 units), while the newly launched P7+ sedan accounted for just 228 units. The L03 launch marks a pivotal step for Xpeng in reinforcing its global positioning as an intelligent EV brand.
