In 2026, Xpeng unveiled its all-new electric SUV-coupe, the L03, in Munich, Germany — and announced it as the first Asia-Pacific automaker to mass-produce a vehicle equipped with Google Maps Auto SDK. This integration goes far beyond simply swapping out a navigation app; it lays the foundational data layer essential for intelligent driving systems abroad.

According to reports, the Auto SDK allows Xpeng to retain its proprietary navigation interface, voice interaction, and cross-screen display features — while deeply embedding Google's real-time traffic routing, point-of-interest search, and EV energy consumption and trip estimation capabilities into the vehicle's underlying system. As a result, users need neither download a smartphone app nor mirror their phone screen — the map functionality runs natively on the infotainment system.
Notably, Xpeng is not the world's first automaker to adopt this SDK — U.S.-based Rivian launched it in July 2025. However, Xpeng is indeed the first Asia-Pacific automaker to achieve mass production and delivery with it. This upgrade will initially roll out to L03 customers overseas, then gradually extend to other exported models — while the Chinese market continues using Xpeng's in-house mapping service.
The truly pivotal factor is how map data underpins intelligent driving systems. Xpeng explicitly stated that the large-scale overseas deployment of its next-generation NGP (Next Generation Pilot) driver-assistance system — and its VLA 2.0 architecture — hinges critically on high-frequency update, wide-coverage navigation data and road operation information. The company acknowledged: "Future overseas applications of NGP (VLA 2.0) must rely on reliable map data and navigation instructions." This collaboration with Google is precisely aimed at resolving that key bottleneck.
The L03 itself is designed for global markets: launching simultaneously in China and approximately 64 overseas markets, and featuring Xpeng's self-developed Turing AI chip across all trims — with peak compute power reaching 1500 TOPS, purpose-built to support the second-generation VLA system. An previously leaked 650-km-range variant was priced at around USD 20,500; integrating Google Maps Auto SDK represents the invisible software foundation enabling its overseas competitiveness.
