BYD Dolphin G DM-i European Debut: 65-Mile All-Electric Range, Starting at €21,900

First plug-in hybrid model developed specifically for overseas markets; first customer deliveries begin in September

BYD has officially launched its new plug-in hybrid model — the Dolphin G DM-i — in the European market. This is BYD's first vehicle developed from the ground up for overseas users, positioned as a B-segment compact hatchback, with first customer deliveries scheduled to begin in September 2026.

Sufficient for Daily EV Commuting, Combined Range Exceeds 1,000 km

The Dolphin G DM-i features BYD's "Super Hybrid" powertrain — a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a dual-motor architecture (one drive motor + one generator). Its WLTP all-electric range varies by battery capacity: the base Active trim uses a 7.42 kWh Blade Battery, delivering ~40 km (24.8 miles) of EV range; Boost, Comfort, and Sport Edition trims use an 18.3 kWh Blade Battery, achieving 105 km (65 miles) of EV range and a combined range of 1,040 km (646 miles).

Official figures claim this system reduces CO₂ emissions from 60 g/km to 32 g/km, achieves a weighted fuel consumption of just 201.7 mpg (~0.7 L/100 km) when fully charged, and supports intelligent switching between EV and HEV modes.

Four Trims, Starting at €21,900 in Germany

The vehicle is offered in four trims in Germany: Active, Boost, Comfort, and limited-run Sport Edition. The Active trim starts at €28,990 (approx. $33,400), which drops to €18,990 after applying €4,500 in government subsidies and a €5,500 BYD E-Bonus.

Compared to the platform-mate pure electric Dolphin Surf (starting at €12,990 including subsidies), the Dolphin G DM-i commands a higher price but offers greater energy-refueling flexibility and significantly longer combined range.

Full Standardization of Intelligent & Safety Features

All trims feature a front-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing 120 kW (161 hp) and peak torque of 210 N·m, enabling 0–100 km/h acceleration in 8.3 seconds. The Active trim supports 3.3 kW AC charging, replenishing from 15% to 100% in three hours; higher trims upgrade to 6.6 kW AC + 39 kW DC fast charging, achieving 10%–80% charge in just 26 minutes.

Interior-wise, the Active trim includes an 8.8-inch full-digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch central touchscreen supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Boost and above trims upgrade to a 12.8-inch display and add heated seats and steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, 15W wireless charging, ambient lighting, and an 8-speaker audio system. The Comfort trim further adds a head-up display (HUD), panoramic sunroof (with electric sunshade), 360-degree surround-view camera, and Google ecosystem integration.

All trims come standard with front and rear parking sensors plus multiple driver-assistance features — including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front/rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, driver status monitoring, and door-opening warning.
