Xpeng Robotics Raises $900M, Valuation Surpasses $6.3B

IRON Humanoid Robot Targets End-of-2026 Mass Production, Accelerating Commercialization via Automotive Ecosystem

Robotics division of Xpeng Automotive recently announced completion of over $900 million in financing, with a post-money valuation exceeding RMB 6.3 billion — the company calls it "the largest single-round funding to date in China's embodied AI industry."

The round was led by IDG Capital and co-invested by GSR Ventures, with strategic support from Tencent and Alibaba. According to Xpeng, approximately $600 million came from external investors, roughly $200 million from Xpeng's subsidiaries, and around $100 million from the company's management team. Proceeds will primarily accelerate mass production of the IRON humanoid robot by end-2026 — a timeline deemed more concrete than that of Tesla's Optimus project.

With the financing closed, Xpeng is restructuring its organization: over the next 18 months, robotics-related assets, intellectual property, and teams will be spun off into an independent subsidiary. Xpeng Group will retain ~82% equity and maintain consolidated financial reporting, while granting the new entity an independent market valuation. Since June 2026, Xpeng Chairman He Xiaopeng has taken direct oversight of the robotics business.

IRON debuted publicly at Xpeng's AI Day in November 2025. Its natural, fluid bipedal locomotion drew widespread attention — some attendees even questioned whether it was a human in disguise. He Xiaopeng responded on stage by opening the robot's leg casing to reveal internal cabling and joint mechanisms, confirming its authenticity.

On the hardware side, IRON features 76 degrees of freedom (DOF) across its body, with 21 DOF per hand, and is covered in Xpeng-defined "fully enclosed flexible lattice-structure" biomimetic skin — balancing safety and human-like appearance. For compute, it integrates three in-house Turing AI chips delivering a combined 2,250 TOPS, enabling local execution of its Physical AI foundational model. Officially, IRON can "autonomously perform complex tasks without Farizon control." Unlike common industry demonstrations focused on human-robot collaboration or remote Farizon operation, this "edge-side autonomy" claim awaits real-world validation after mass production and deployment.

Xpeng emphasizes its core advantage: leveraging its proven EV supply chain and manufacturing capabilities to transfer "automotive-grade quality standards" and "high-volume production experience" to humanoid robotics. In Q2 2026, Xpeng Automotive delivered 103,300 vehicles — a 64.8% sequential increase. The robotics subsidiary targets monthly output exceeding 1,000 IRON units by end-2026, with a long-term vision of "one million units annual capacity by 2030." Initial deployment will prioritize Xpeng's own retail stores and campuses; formal deliveries to Chinese and overseas markets are scheduled to begin in 2027.
