WEY V8X BEV SUV Filed for Approval: Dual-Motor, 724 hp Targets Premium EV Market

Built on GWM One Platform, 5-Meter Body + LiDAR; Expected Debut in 2026

High-end brand WEY under Great Wall Automobile is accelerating its push into the premium battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment. Recently, the WEY V8X all-electric full-size SUV completed filing with MIIT — signaling a new offensive by the brand into the high-end BEV niche.

The V8X is positioned as a five-seat mid-to-large BEV SUV, measuring 5,000–5,040 mm in length and featuring a 2,968-mm wheelbase. It adopts a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive layout delivering a combined peak output of 540 kW (724 hp): the front motor — UAES (a joint venture between Bosch and Chinese partners) model YS220QY234 — produces 220 kW (295 hp), while the rear motor, supplied by SVOLT — a subsidiary of Great Wall — is SVOLT's QT70TZ220001 unit, rated at 320 kW (429 hp). Top speed reaches 220 km/h, with approach and departure angles of 19° and 23°, respectively.

Developed on the GWM One platform, the V8X will be offered in both HEV and BEV variants. Earlier revealed plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions — including the V8X PHEV and flagship three-row V9X PHEV — are also derivatives of this same platform; the latter is widely seen as competing directly against ZEEKR 9X and AITO M9 models.

Exterior styling features a closed-off front fascia with a full-width LED light bar and an integrated LiDAR unit; active grille shutters aid thermal management for the electric powertrain. The rear employs a seamless full-width taillight. Three wheel options are available: 255/50 R20, HL255/50 R21, and 275/45 R21.

Data shows that from January to June 2026, WEY brand sales in China totaled 40,828 units — up 24.3% year-on-year. Amid accelerating electrification, Great Wall is pursuing a dual-track strategy covering both PHEVs and BEVs to adapt to shifting market dynamics: its new-energy vehicle market share stood at 30.49% last year, and the company continues ramping up R&D investment and product iteration in 2026.
