Kia Seltos Launches in Europe, Targets Mainstream Compact SUV Segment

Kia has officially introduced the second-generation Seltos compact SUV to the European market — completing a three-model lineup in the region's largest and fastest-growing segment: Sportage, all-electric EV3, and the newly added Seltos — covering gasoline, hybrid, and battery-electric powertrains.

According to Pablo Martínez, Kia's European marketing head, the Seltos sits between the larger Sportage and the all-electric EV3, emphasizing a bolder crossover design and more competitive pricing — its starting price is approximately €2,000 lower than the comparable Sportage. Martínez describes the Sportage as an 'all-rounder,' while the Seltos targets outdoor- and activity-oriented consumers with its rugged styling language.

In Europe, the Seltos' main rivals include the Volkswagen T-Roc, TOYOTA COROLLA Cross, and HONDA HR-V. Data shows that, as of May 2026, sales in the compact crossover/SUV segment rose 13% year-on-year, with the T-Roc leading the segment at 63,259 units sold.

The Seltos is one of Kia's core global models. Since its debut in India in 2019, cumulative global sales have reached 1.7 million units; over 177,000 units were sold in the first half of 2026 alone, making it Kia's second-best-selling model after the Sportage. The second-generation Seltos launched in December 2025, built on the K3 platform, and is currently produced across two plants in Korea and one in India — with future assembly planned in China.

The European launch version features a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine delivering up to 177 hp. Its starting price is €31,500 in Italy and €34,190 in Germany — significantly higher than its U.S. counterpart (starting below $25,000). By comparison, the platform-mate all-electric EV3 starts at around €36,000 in Germany. At 4,340 mm long, the Seltos sits between the Sportage (4,540 mm) and EV3 (4,300 mm).

Kia plans to begin full hybrid production in Korea in August 2026, with European deliveries scheduled for Q4 2026. Both powertrains offer front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options: the gasoline version uses a mechanical AWD system, while the hybrid employs an electric motor on the rear axle for e-AWD — a technology making its production debut on a Kia vehicle.

Martínez stated that Kia expects hybrid variants to account for 70% of total Seltos sales in Europe. Meanwhile, current gasoline-powered models emit 155 g/km CO₂ or more — potentially facing policy-driven cost pressures in markets like France, where high-emission vehicles are taxed.
