Kia EV4 Launches AWD Version in Europe: Dual-Motor, 560 km Range

Kia has officially launched the 2027-model-year EV4 all-wheel-drive (AWD) version in the European market, marking a power and range upgrade for the brand's first fully electric vehicle produced locally in Europe. Notably, this new AWD variant is not the high-performance EV4 GT previously unveiled in Korea, but rather a practical, mainstream-oriented four-wheel-drive option.

The current EV4 offers only front-wheel-drive (FWD) with a single motor, delivering a maximum output of 150 kW (201 hp) and peak torque of 283 N·m. The 2027 model introduces an AWD system by adding a second motor on the rear axle, achieving a combined output of 195 kW (265 hp) and 385 N·m — available on both Earth and GT-Line trims, but not offered on the entry-level Air trim.

Equipped with an 81.4 kWh high-capacity battery, the EV4 Earth AWD achieves a WLTP-rated range of 560 km (~347 miles); the GT-Line AWD version uses the same battery but delivers a slightly lower WLTP range of 550 km (~341 miles) due to different tuning. In contrast, the base EV4 Air FWD features a smaller 58.3 kWh battery and offers a WLTP range of 440 km (~273 miles).

Pricing in Germany starts at €48,730 (~$55,700) for the EV4 Earth AWD and €51,940 (~$59,300) for the GT-Line AWD. The entry-level Air FWD begins at €37,590 (~$43,000).

It's worth emphasizing that although its performance specs closely mirror those of the already-launched dual-motor EV3 GT, Kia has deliberately avoided labeling the new EV4 AWD as "GT" or positioning it as a performance-focused model. Meanwhile, the EV4 GT — first revealed in Korea with a combined output of 215 kW (288 hp), 468 N·m torque, and a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 5.6 seconds — is expected to roll out across Europe and other global markets starting in 2026.

However, the North American market will not receive the EV4 series — at least not yet. Kia has confirmed that the U.S. launch of the EV4 has been indefinitely delayed, citing changes in U.S. automotive tariff policies and regulatory conditions under the previous administration. As a stopgap, the compact all-electric SUV EV3 is slated to arrive in the U.S. before the end of 2026, with an estimated starting price of ~$35,000 and a WLTP range of approximately 320 miles (~515 km).
