On July 23, AUDI-SAIC officially announced that the all-new mid-size sedan ID. ERA 5S will launch in Q3 2026. As the second model in the ID. ERA lineup, it is expected to become Volkswagen's first global sedan equipped with Urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) — a high-level intelligent driving capability — marking Volkswagen's accelerated alignment with mainstream Chinese intelligent-driving technology standards.

According to official information, the ID. ERA 5S will feature the 'Xingyun Zhixing' advanced driver-assistance system, supporting both highway and urban NOA functions. Its intelligent cockpit is named 'Yunqi Smart Cabin', emphasizing human-vehicle interaction and scenario-based services. Note that the specific rollout scope of Urban NOA, its dependency on high-definition maps, and whether it requires optional purchase or subscription remain undisclosed.
Design-wise, the ID. ERA 5S retains the ID. family language: a closed front grille, star-ring LED headlight clusters, and a centrally mounted, illuminated Volkswagen logo for enhanced brand recognition. The side profile features semi-concealed door handles and multi-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, a full-width taillight integrates auxiliary driving status indicators ('blue indicator lights'), achieving visual harmony between front and rear. Five exterior colors are offered: Gold, Blue, Black, White, and Gray.
The vehicle measures 4,836 mm (length) × 1,880 mm (width) × 1,505 mm (height), with a wheelbase of 2,766 mm — positioning it firmly in the mid-size sedan segment. The interior adopts a wraparound layout, complemented by 255-color dynamic ambient lighting and multiple chrome accents. Standard equipment includes a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, column-mounted gear shifter, floating central touchscreen, fully digital instrument cluster, and a center console island integrating wireless charging and dual horizontal cup holders.
Powertrain-wise, the ID. ERA 5S is powered by a 1.5L plug-in hybrid system, delivering a maximum engine output of 80 kW and a peak electric motor output of 130 kW. Under CLTC conditions, its all-electric range reaches 160 km, while combined range exceeds 2,000 km, and CLTC fuel consumption in charge-sustaining mode is as low as 2.82 L/100 km. Importantly, this is a plug-in hybrid — not a battery-electric platform nor an extended-range architecture.
