Borward-Spengler 05 GT Unveiled: 790-HP PHEV GT Based on BMW 5 Series Touring

New flagship from the Alpina founding family; deliveries begin in Q4

One year after its first Zagato-branded sports car debuted globally, Borward-Spengler — the high-performance tuning brand founded by the Alpina founding family — has officially launched its second production model: the 05 GT. Built upon the current-generation BMW 5 Series Touring, the 05 GT undergoes extensive engineering rework to evolve into a luxurious plug-in hybrid GT sedan that seamlessly blends executive presence with track-ready performance. Starting at €198,900,首批 customer deliveries are scheduled for Q4 2026.

Design: Heritage and Distinct Identity

The 05 GT’s exterior bears strong visual ties to Alpina models — a lineage rooted in Borward-Spengler’s origins: the brand was established independently by the original Alpina founding family following BMW’s acquisition of Alpina in 2022. As such, the 05 GT is widely regarded as the spiritual successor to the classic Alpina B5 Touring. To strike a balance between homage and new identity, Borward-Spengler enlisted renowned automotive designer Frank Stephenson to lead the vehicle’s styling, delivering unmistakable brand character: a front fascia featuring a large mesh grille with prominent Borward-Spengler badging and a sport-tuned bumper; 21-inch, 20-spoke forged alloy wheels and bespoke side skirts as standard; and a rear end defined by an integrated carbon-fiber spoiler, refined rear diffuser, and quad-exit exhaust — all expressing performance with restrained elegance.

790-HP PHEV Powertrain Redefines Touring Car Performance

The powertrain represents the 05 GT’s most significant leap forward. It adopts the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid system found in the BMW M5 — then extensively retuned by Borward-Spengler: upgraded intake system, titanium Akrapovič exhaust, and a bespoke ECU calibration. Final output reaches 790 hp and 1,100 N·m of peak torque — up 72 hp and 100 N·m over stock. The 0–100 km/h sprint takes under 3.6 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 305 km/h. Curb weight stands at just 2,555 kg — only 5 kg heavier than the M5 Touring. The chassis is likewise reinforced, featuring Eibach sport springs, upgraded suspension bearings, and strut tower braces — optimizing both high-speed stability and cornering agility.

The cabin upholds the highest standards of German craftsmanship. Seats, steering wheel, and door panels are upholstered in premium Lavalina leather sourced from select tanneries in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy — available in customizable multi-color combinations. Every stitch is hand-sewn, with subtle Borward-Spengler embroidery and metal nameplates embedded throughout, merging personalization with understated luxury. While not a limited-run model, each 05 GT is built to order — with delivery timelines expected to span several months.
