TOYOTA Unveils 2027 bZ5 EV SUV: Starting at ¥129,800, CLTC Range up to 630 km

TOYOTA is accelerating its electrification strategy in China. Following the initial launch of the bZ5 by FAWTOYOTA in June 2025, the upgraded 2027 model has officially debuted — positioned as a midsize all-electric SUV with dimensions close to those of Tesla Model Y, yet priced at roughly half its level.

According to official information from FAWTOYOTA, the 2027 bZ5 offers six trim levels, with standard pricing ranging from ¥129,800 to ¥199,800. During a limited-time promotion, the entry-level variant drops to ¥109,800 (approx. $16,500). For comparison, the currently available rear-wheel-drive Tesla Model Y in China starts at ¥263,500 (CLTC range: 593 km), underscoring the bZ5's strong value proposition.

The new model features two BYD Blade Battery packs: 65.28 kWh and 73.98 kWh versions, delivering CLTC ranges of 550 km and 630 km, respectively. Power comes from a single front-mounted motor producing 200 kW (268 hp) maximum output and 330 N·m peak torque.

Intelligence is a key upgrade focus. The 2027 bZ5 adopts the Momenta 6.0 intelligent driving system, powered by the R6 large language model and a high-performance chip delivering 544 TOPS of computing power. Coupled with a roof-mounted LiDAR and 32 smart sensors, it supports over 30 ADAS features — including urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) and advanced automatic parking.

The cabin experience is also enhanced: equipped with a 15.6-inch smart central display, floating digital instrument cluster, and three-spoke steering wheel. Notably, this vehicle becomes the first in its class to feature a dual-driver monitoring system, capable of simultaneously tracking both the driver and front passenger.

Body dimensions measure 4,780 mm (L) × 1,866 mm (W) × 1,510 mm (H), with a 2,880-mm wheelbase — nearly identical to Model Y (4,797 × 1,920 × 1,624 mm; wheelbase 2,890 mm), placing it firmly in the midsize all-electric SUV segment.

However, market performance remains a challenge. Per CnEVPost data, bZ5 sales peaked at 3,019 units in September 2025, then declined steadily — reaching just 529 units in July 2026, a 64% month-on-month drop. Whether this comprehensive refresh can reverse the trend will be a critical indicator of TOYOTA's success in transitioning to pure electric vehicles in China.
