Mercedes-Benz All-New GLA Electric SUV Leaked Ahead of Global Debut on July 29

As the smallest and most entry-level SUV in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, the GLA is set for a full electric transformation. Ahead of its official global launch on July 29, 2026, leaked images of a prototype all-electric GLA have surfaced — sparking widespread attention.

Following the larger GLC EV and GLB EV, the GLA becomes the third SUV in the Mercedes-Benz portfolio to undergo full electrification. Notably, the internal-combustion version will retain its current naming convention, while the new battery-electric model abandons the previous EQ nomenclature — opting instead for the straightforward name GLA Electric. This signals a further simplification and unification of Mercedes-Benz's EV naming strategy.

The vehicle is built on Mercedes-Benz's latest MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture) platform — the same one underpinning the upcoming CLA EV. Its electrical system adopts an 800V high-voltage architecture and is equipped with an 85kWh NMC lithium-ion battery pack, enabling ultra-fast charging. Its WLTP-rated range is expected to reach or exceed 400 miles (~644 km).

Leaked images reveal a completely redesigned front end: a closed-off grille features a three-dimensional three-pointed star emblem at its center, flanked by LED headlight units that integrate the iconic tri-star motif — delivering a cleaner, more futuristic aesthetic. Though the interior isn't visible in the images, it's expected to closely mirror the CLA EV's cabin layout, likely featuring a 14-inch central infotainment display, a 10.24-inch fully digital instrument cluster, and an optional 14-inch passenger-side display.

The vehicle will run Mercedes-Benz's next-generation operating system, MB.OS — the first automotive infotainment platform to integrate AI capabilities from both Microsoft and Google. Powertrain options are expected to include two variants: the GLA Electric 250+ and the GLA Electric 350 4MATIC. Drawing parallels with the CLA EV's specs, the former is likely rear-wheel drive, delivering up to 268 hp and peak torque of 247 lb-ft (~335 N·m); the latter is an all-wheel-drive variant producing 349 hp and 380 lb-ft (~515 N·m) of torque.
