New-generation Chinese-market Hyundai Elantra spy shots revealed, design largely carries over from global version

Recently, spy shots of the new-generation China-market Hyundai Elantra (codenamed CN8c) have surfaced. As the eighth-generation model, its global counterpart (codenamed CN8) was officially launched in June 2026. According to reports, the China-market version is expected to closely mirror the global model in overall design language, body proportions, and core specifications — though specific localization adjustments remain unconfirmed by the automaker.

Although the test mule is heavily camouflaged, visible elements — including daytime running lights, a split-headlight layout, trapezoidal lower grille, side mirror contours, and wheel designs — all align closely with the global version. The vehicle adopts Hyundai's latest 'Steel Art' design language, emphasizing sharp lines to heighten both tech appeal and sporty character. The global version measures 4765/1855/1425 mm (L/W/H), with a 2750-mm wheelbase; whether the China-market variant will extend the wheelbase or optimize rear-seat space for local preferences remains unclear.

The rear end is still in pre-production trim, yet the reflector strip layout on the rear bumper, ducktail spoiler shape, and central camera positioning all match the global version — suggesting the production model will retain the integrated logo-and-camera design. Though the interior remains fully covered, door panel lines and center console armrest contours indicate strong consistency with the global model. Based on overseas specs, the car is expected to feature a 14.6-inch floating infotainment display paired with a digital instrument cluster; the China-market version will likely receive localized adaptations — including voice interaction, ecosystem apps, and map services — tailored to domestic user habits.

Powertrain options include a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine and a 1.6L hybrid system. The 2.0L gasoline variant delivers a maximum output of 149 hp; the 1.6L hybrid version features an upgraded drive motor and enlarged battery capacity, raising system output to 157 hp and adding regenerative braking capability. Notably, the vehicle retains a torsion-beam rear axle — not upgraded to a multi-link independent suspension.
