GMC Unveils Limited-Edition Hummer EV ICON | 25 to Mark 25th Anniversary — Sales Plunge 55%

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Hummer brand, GMC has officially launched the limited-edition Hummer EV ICON | 25 — a special all-electric super pickup and SUV inspired by the iconic yellow hue of the original H2. Scheduled for launch in 2027, this model will be produced in small batches — but its debut arrives amid a challenging backdrop: Hummer EV sales across the U.S. and Canada dropped 54.9% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, totaling just 3,601 units.

Yellow Revival, Details Honor Heritage

The ICON | 25's exclusive paint color — "ICON Yellow" — draws directly from the highly recognizable bright yellow of the original H2. GMC describes it as "a contemporary reinterpretation of a classic." The exterior pairs with Jet Black interior trim and a black front underbody skid plate. Each vehicle features a serialized dashboard plaque, a custom UI animation on the infotainment screen paying homage to past Hummer models, and comes with limited-edition collectible accessories. This special edition will be available on both the 2X and 3X powertrain variants of the 2027 Hummer EV lineup, covering both pickup and SUV body styles.

Full-Line Upgrade to NACS Port, Hardcore Features Carry Over

Beyond the special edition, the entire 2027 Hummer EV lineup receives a key practical upgrade: standard native North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports, enabling direct plug-in access to Tesla Supercharger networks — no adapter required. Vehicle-to-home (V2H) bidirectional charging remains supported, though it requires the GM Energy PowerShift Charger and V2H Enablement Kit.

In addition, five new exterior colors are added — including ICON Yellow, Dark Ridge, and Azurite Blue — as well as two new 22-inch wheel options. Core off-road capabilities remain unchanged: four-wheel steering (including CrabWalk and King Crab modes), adaptive air suspension, Extract Mode (raising maximum ground clearance by ~15 cm), Super Cruise hands-free driving assistance, removable Infinity Roof, and up to 18-camera surround-view system on the pickup variant.

No Performance Changes, Pricing Not Yet Announced

The top-tier Hummer EV 3X Pickup retains its claimed peak output of 1,160 hp and maximum torque of 13,000 lb-ft (~17,630 N·m). With the optional 24-module battery pack, its 0–60 mph acceleration remains as quick as 2.8 seconds. Production will begin later this year at GM's Factory ZERO plants in Detroit and Hamtramck, targeting the U.S. and Canadian markets. GMC states official pricing will be revealed closer to production start; for reference, the 2026 model starts around $99,000, with the 3X variant exceeding $107,000.

Sales Under Pressure, Policy Rollback a Key Factor

The sharp sales decline correlates closely with the phaseout of federal EV tax credits. Although the Hummer EV was already ineligible for the purchase credit due to its price far exceeding the $80,000 cap (for pickups/SUVs), consumers previously qualified for the $7,500 credit via leasing — a pathway that ended at the close of 2025. GM has accordingly scaled back production timelines across multiple BEVs, including the Hummer EV, Silverado EV, Sierra EV, and Cadillac Escalade IQ.
