All-New Third-Generation BYD Tang Unveiled at 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, Launching in Q4

On August 21, the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show officially opened, and BYD debuted its all-new Tang (officially named the third-generation Tang) on stage for the first time. As a key update to the brand's midsize SUV lineup, the new model will adopt a dual-model strategy alongside Tang L and launch a refreshed naming system. It is scheduled to go on sale in Q4 2026.

Exterior design draws inspiration from the 'Tang' concept design language: a closed-off front grille paired with upward-sweeping LED headlamps on both sides, plus a full-width chrome accent bar embedded centrally — delivering a bold, tech-forward front-end aesthetic. The rear features a full-width LED taillight assembly with the BYD logo centered, complemented by a large sporty rear spoiler to enhance visual layering and brand recognition.

In terms of dimensions, the new model measures 5045 mm in length, 1980 mm in width, and 1760 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2950 mm and front/rear track widths both at 1700 mm. Compared to the current Tang L, its length, wheelbase, and height remain largely unchanged, while width and track width are slightly reduced.

The interior adopts an entirely new design language, featuring an integrated digital instrument cluster + center touchscreen display, plus a narrow full-LCD information strip mounted above the center screen — capable of showing real-time multimedia, weather, level gauge, and gear mode info. Key features include wireless phone charging and physical function buttons, balancing smart functionality with intuitive operability.

Only one single-motor powertrain variant has been registered so far, powered by the TZ205QYD drive motor delivering a peak output of 300 kW and a top speed of 250 km/h. According to the 'List of New Energy Vehicles Eligible for Vehicle Purchase Tax Exemption (Batch 33)', two battery options will be offered: 88.682 kWh and 105.792 kWh, enabling CLTC all-electric ranges of 730 km, 830 km, and 850 km respectively. Additionally, the vehicle is expected to feature the DiSus-A intelligent air suspension system — integrating dual-chamber air springs and intelligent road preview technology — for rapid response to complex road conditions.

For intelligent driving, the new Tang will be equipped with the 'Sky Eye B' ADAS suite, hardware including one LiDAR sensor, supporting urban NOA, highway NOA, and automated parking — including traffic light navigation, autonomous lane changes, pedestrian yielding, and seamless ETC passage across high-frequency scenarios.
