BYD Qin Max Unveiled: B-Segment Sedan with 5-Minute Flash Charging

BYD has officially announced the upcoming launch of its all-new B-segment sedan — the Qin Max — positioned above the current Qin L model. According to Lu Tian, General Manager of Dynasty Network's Sales Division, the vehicle targets young consumers and centers its appeal on ultra-high-rate flash charging capability. The model first appeared in China's regulatory filings last December.

The new sedan measures 4,866 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm — 33 mm longer than the Qin L (4,830 mm × 1,900 mm × 1,495 mm, wheelbase 2,790 mm). Its design carries forward BYD's family styling language: a sealed front fascia, upward-sweeping sharp headlights, and a three-section air intake; side profile features semi-concealed door handles and multi-spoke wheels; the rear is equipped with a strip-style taillight featuring intricate light patterns.

Powertrain options include plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (BEV) variants. The PHEV version pairs a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with an electric motor — delivering peak engine output of 74 kW and peak motor output of 175 kW — and uses a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The BEV variant offers two motor options: 120 kW and 240 kW, paired with battery capacities of 52.868 kWh and 64.315 kWh respectively, delivering CLTC all-electric ranges of 530 km and 630 km. The vehicle integrates BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology. Based on real-world test data from comparable models, it supports charging from 10% to 70% state-of-charge (SoC) in just five minutes, and from 10% to 97% SoC in only nine minutes; even at -30°C extreme cold, charging time increases by just three minutes.
