The US market for heavy-duty electric trucks is rapidly expanding into major logistics corridors. Chinese startup Windrose recently announced that its Class 8 electric heavy-duty truck, the R700, could enter service as early as the fourth quarter of 2026 on the Texas I-35 freight corridor linking Dallas to Laredo — with a clear objective: to serve cross-border routes to Mexico .
This deployment is being jointly led by logistics giant DSV, supply chain company Allogic, and charging infrastructure provider Greenspace E-Mobility, which is currently developing its "electric highway" network. This network follows I-35 (Texas section) and Mexican Route 85, with the ambition of covering the Monterrey–San Antonio–Laredo–Dallas line, in order to create the first fully electric cross-border freight route in North America.
However, two concrete constraints are still hindering the project's implementation: first, the Green Hub charging stations developed by Greenspace are not yet complete. According to available information, Phase 1 is expected to deliver four operational stations in Texas by the fourth quarter of 2026, offering high charging power between 400 and 1,000 kW; stable power capacity along the entire route will only be ensured in subsequent phases. Each Green Hub will also be equipped with photovoltaic panels and energy storage systems to alleviate pressure on the electrical grid—a direct response to the reliability challenges posed by I-35, North America's busiest freight corridor.
Secondly, the official press release does not specify whether DSV, Allogic, or Greenspace have signed a formal purchase order for these vehicles. It should be noted that Greenspace also acts as an authorized distributor of Windrose electric technology trucks in Panama, Mexico, and Texas—this overlap of roles makes responsibilities less clear. Therefore, it is not possible at this stage to determine whether these 10 R700 units represent an actual order, an extension of the pilot phase, or simply a purely prospective commitment.
Rumors also suggest that AlloChic received the first production R700 vehicle from Windrose in April 2026, intended for a customer, thus providing some factual support for the project. If the rollout is successful, this batch of vehicles would reduce carbon emissions by more than 1,500 tons annually. However, as of the date of publication, Windrose has not provided any further information regarding the status of orders, the delivery schedule, or the precise technical specifications of the R700 ( range , battery capacity , motor power, etc.).
