The US market for electric heavy-duty trucks is rapidly expanding into key logistics corridors. Chinese startup Windrose recently announced that its Class 8 electric heavy-duty truck, the R700 model, could begin operating on Texas' I-35 freight corridor—connecting Dallas to Laredo—starting in the fourth quarter of 2026. An initial deployment of 10 units is planned to serve the cross-border trunk routes into Mexico.

This deployment is being jointly driven by logistics giant DSV, supply chain company Allogic, and charging infrastructure provider Greenspace E-Mobility, leveraging the network under construction known as the "electric highway." This network is being developed along Interstate 35 (Texas section) and Mexican Highway 85, with planned coverage between Monterrey, San Antonio, Laredo, and Dallas, to establish the first fully electric cross-border freight corridor in North America.

However, the project's implementation faces two practical limitations: first, Greenspace's Green Hub charging stations are not yet complete. Phase 1 is slated to open four stations on the Texas side during the fourth quarter of 2026, offering ultra-fast charging capacity of 400–1,000 kW; stable power availability across the entire network will depend on subsequent phases. Each Green Hub station will also feature photovoltaic and energy storage systems to alleviate pressure on the electrical grid—a strategy specifically aimed at addressing the reliability challenge posed by the I-35 corridor, the busiest freight corridor in North America.

Second, the official statement does not clarify whether DSV, Allogic, or Greenspace have already placed a formal order for the vehicles. It is worth noting that Greenspace simultaneously acts as an authorized distributor of Windrose's electric technical trucks in Panama, Mexico, and Texas, which creates overlapping roles and ambiguity in defining responsibilities. It is currently impossible to confirm whether these 10 R700 units correspond to existing orders, a pilot program, or simply a commitment to intentional deployment.

Furthermore, according to unconfirmed rumors, Allogic received the first customer-grade R700 prototype vehicle from Windrose in April 2026, which lends some empirical support to the project. If the rollout is successful, this batch of vehicles could reduce carbon emissions by more than 1,500 tons annually. However, as of the date of publication, Windrose has not released any additional information regarding order status, delivery schedules, or specific technical parameters of the R700—such as range, battery capacity, or motor power.
