The twin models of AUDI-SAIC's ID.ERA series — the ID.ERA 8X and ID.ERA 5X — will make their world premiere at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show. This marks a new phase in Volkswagen's new energy strategy in China, with the two models adopting distinct powertrain approaches — extended-range and all-electric — to serve diverse customer needs.

ID.ERA 8X: Extended-Range Mid-to-Large SUV Focused on German Driving Dynamics & Long Range
The ID.ERA 8X is positioned as a mid-to-large SUV, measuring 5020/1997/1750 mm (L/W/H) with a 2970-mm wheelbase and a five-seat layout. Officially dubbed the "German-engineered driving flagship SUV," its exterior features a full-width Horizon Light Wing LED light strip and L-shaped DRLs; the headlights adopt a "six-core high-energy grille" design, supporting sequential welcome lighting and status feedback lighting effects.
Underpinning the vehicle is the Cloud-Flow Digital Chassis, integrating the VMC Chassis Intelligence Control Hub, dual-chamber air suspension, and an intelligent predictive Magic Carpet system for millisecond-level dynamic response. Optional packages span four categories: exterior styling kits, intelligent driving modules, comfort features, and mobility systems — enabling highly personalized configuration.
Its powertrain uses a 1.5T extended-range system: the range extender delivers up to 105 kW, while the drive motor peaks at 220 kW. Two battery options are offered — 51.1 kWh and 65.2 kWh — delivering WLTC pure-electric ranges of 260–275 km and 330–345 km respectively. Under CLTC conditions, the 51.1-kWh version achieves over 340 km of pure-electric range and over 1,400 km of combined range; the 65.2-kWh version exceeds 400 km electric-only and 1,500 km total range.
ID.ERA 5X: All-Electric Compact SUV Prioritizing Intelligent Driving Deployment
The ID.ERA 5X measures 4560/1896/1630 mm (L/W/H), with a 2815-mm wheelbase and a sporty fastback silhouette complemented by a full-width taillight. It is Volkswagen's first global production model built on the CMP platform and equipped with the CEA electronic/electrical architecture — and the first ID-series model to feature LiDAR hardware.
Intelligence-wise, the ID.ERA 5X integrates the "Cloud-Flow Senova Zhixing" ADAS suite, enabling end-to-end urban NOA across all scenarios. Its cockpit retains the "Cloud-Nest Smart Cabin" Everus, optimized for enhanced human-vehicle interaction efficiency. Power comes solely from an electric motor rated at 155 kW peak output, paired with a CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack.
