Recently, Volkswagen officially unveiled the California Ocean Generation Special Edition via official images. As a premium derivative of the California lineup, this special edition focuses on enhancing all-season camping experiences — notably introducing a smart roof-mounted heating system and other exclusive comfort features, further strengthening its differentiated positioning in the premium self-propelled motorhome market.
Exterior styling offers two-tone paint options and comes standard with 18-inch black alloy wheels. A commemorative badge is embedded on the B-pillar, while door-sill projectors display an animated 'California' logo. Together with bespoke design details, these elements reinforce a distinct limited-edition identity.
The interior features two-tone seat upholstery: microfiber suede in the center section and synthetic leather on the side bolsters. Customized trim elements include a steering wheel accent strip, aluminum pedal covers, and exclusive floor mats — clearly distinguishing it from standard production models.
Functionally, the new model offers an optional power tailgate; the air-conditioning system adds a nighttime cooling mode for more precise temperature control; and the plug-in hybrid version supports up to eight hours of parking climate control. Most notably, its newly designed roof tent ducting system directs warm air directly into the elevated tent compartment, ensuring comfortable temperatures around the upper sleeping area even in cold conditions — significantly improving practicality for winter and high-altitude camping.
Three powertrain options are available: a 2.0 TDI turbocharged diesel engine delivering 150 hp (110 kW) and 360 N·m of torque; a high-output gasoline variant producing 204 hp (150 kW) and 320 N·m; and a plug-in hybrid version with a combined output of 245 hp (180 kW), paired with a 19.7-kWh battery pack. The starting price is 91,308.70 euro (approximately RMB 710,000).
