Subaru Cuts 2027 Solterra Price to Qualify for Canada's EV Subsidy Program

Subaru Canada announced that the 2027 Solterra all-electric crossover — set to arrive at dealerships later this year — will see its starting manufacturer's suggested retail price reduced by approximately $4,500 CAD, thereby qualifying for the first time under Canada's reinstated Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP).

According to information released by Subaru on July 6, the base 2027 Solterra's MSRP is set at $47,995 CAD — below EVAP's $50,000 CAD eligibility ceiling. The program offers up to $5,000 CAD in purchase incentives for battery electric vehicles bought in 2026 — equivalent to roughly $4,425 CAD pre-tax. Adding $3,157 CAD in freight and dealer fees, the effective starting out-the-door cost for consumers is $46,727 CAD.

In contrast, the current 2026 Solterra — starting at $55,285 CAD including freight and fees — falls outside EVAP's coverage. This price adjustment marks the first time Subaru has made the Solterra eligible for federal EV subsidies.

Subaru joins Mazda as the second Japanese automaker to adjust zero-emission vehicle pricing in response to Canada's updated federal subsidy policy. Mazda lowered prices on its CX-70 and CX-90 plug-in hybrid variants by about $3,750 CAD in June; with subsidies applied, some fully electric models now land below $40,000 CAD.

The 2027 Solterra will continue to be offered in three trims, all featuring standard all-wheel drive and a 77 kWh battery pack. Its official maximum range is rated at 446 km.
