2027 Kia Niro Hybrid Refresh: EV Variant Discontinued, Tech and Design Enhanced

The 2027 Kia Niro Hybrid will officially launch in the North American market this summer. Notably, this model-year refresh will be offered exclusively as a hybrid, with the Niro EV — previously sold for several years — confirmed to be discontinued from the 2027 lineup.

This shift coincides with surging sales of Kia's hybrid models in the U.S.: official data shows hybrid Niro sales jumped 187% year-on-year in June 2026. Analysts suggest the move aims to concentrate resources on strengthening hybrid competitiveness amid sustained North American demand for high-value, fuel-efficient vehicles.

Exterior styling adopts a fresh design language: the front fascia continues Kia's "Opposites United" philosophy, integrating vertical and horizontal lighting elements; the rear features inward-tilting slim vertical LED taillights, while the rear bumper and tailgate lines flow more smoothly; the C-pillars are now body-colored, delivering a cleaner, more cohesive visual impression.

Cabin upgrades are especially prominent: a curved 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard across all trims; instrument clusters come in two configurations — base models feature a 4-inch display, while higher trims offer an optional 12.3-inch fully digital instrument panel. The infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (standard on all trims, including the new entry-level S grade); models equipped with the Kia Connected Car Navigation Cockpit system also support over-the-air (OTA) updates.

The powertrain carries over unchanged: a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission delivers a combined output of 139 hp. This powertrain has remained consistent since the previous-generation Niro's 2023 redesign and has proven reliable and fuel-efficient in real-world use.

Data shows total Niro sales (hybrid and EV combined) reached 13,767 units in the first half of 2026 — a 14% increase year-on-year. Although the official 2027 pricing has not yet been announced, it is expected to remain competitive within Kia's entry-level electrified vehicle segment, following the 2026 model's range of $28,885–$37,285 (including freight).
