Hyundai IONIQ 3 to Open Pre-Orders in H2 2026; 2027 Sales Target Exceeds 40,000 Units

Hyundai is accelerating the launch of its all-new battery electric vehicle (BEV), the IONIQ 3. Multiple sources indicate the model will begin taking pre-orders across European markets in the second half of 2026, with mass production scheduled to commence in mid-August 2026. The 2027 sales target stands at over 40,000 units.

As Hyundai's first B-segment BEV SUV developed specifically for Europe, the IONIQ 3 carries high expectations — not only as a pivotal move in Hyundai's electrification strategy but also as a cornerstone model to drive growth across the region. Euisun Chung, Chairman of the Hyundai Motor Group, recently visited the İzmit plant in Turkey to inspect the full production process — including body manufacturing, battery system assembly (handled by Hyundai Mobis), and final vehicle assembly — and emphasized: "Quality must be our top priority from day one of production — especially safety. We must ensure the IONIQ 3 is widely recognized as one of Europe's safest vehicles."

Data shows the B-segment accounts for roughly 15% of total passenger vehicle sales in Europe. Today, EV penetration in this segment stands at about 14%, but is projected to rise to 33% by 2030 and jump further to 65% by 2035. The IONIQ 3 is squarely aimed at this rapidly expanding market.

In terms of specification, the IONIQ 3 offers two battery options: 42.2 kWh and 61 kWh. Under WLTP conditions, the smaller pack delivers up to 344 km (213 miles) of range, while the larger achieves up to 496 km (308 miles). Both support DC fast charging, with 10–80% recharge times of approximately 29 and 30 minutes, respectively.

The vehicle debuts Hyundai's next-generation Pleos intelligent cockpit system in Europe — built on Android Automotive OS and supporting app ecosystems, customizable UI layouts, and voice interaction. Central infotainment screens are available in 12.9-inch and 14.6-inch sizes, with a fully digital instrument cluster offered as an option. The system integrates the AI assistant Gleo AI, capable of conversational learning and behavioral adaptation.

Dimensions measure 4,155 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,505 mm in height, with a 2,680 mm wheelbase — slightly smaller than the platform-mate Kia EV3. Hyundai states that the IONIQ 3 has already generated "unprecedented customer interest in the brand's history" ahead of its official launch.
