Recently, interior spy shots of the 2026 BYD Seagull have surfaced online in China. As the most affordable pure-electric model in BYD's BYD Ocean Network series, the vehicle's dimensions and powertrain specs were previously confirmed via MIIT registration documents for MIIT — but this marks the first public look at its cabin design.
Redesigned Center Console, No Digital Instrument Cluster
The spy photos reveal a completely new dual-tier, angled center console. The lower tier features significantly expanded storage space — ideal for everyday items like tissue boxes or food delivery containers. A large floating touchscreen dominates the top of the dashboard, replacing the current full-digital instrument cluster positioned directly ahead of the driver. Steering-wheel controls adopt a new 'square-round' shape, maintaining Ocean Network's family design language. The interior retains its signature Ocean Blue theme, with added red stitching on seat bolsters for visual accent.
Notably, a row of physical function buttons remains below the central display — positioned beneath the air vents. At present, no official details confirm whether the screen's resolution or underlying chip performance has been upgraded.
Larger Dimensions, More Powerful Motor
MIIT registration data shows the 2026 Seagull measures 4205 mm × 1810 mm × 1570 mm, with a wheelbase of 2650 mm — 150 mm longer than the current model. Curb weight increases to 1180–1255 kg, and all trims now come standard with wider 205/60R16 tires.
The powertrain sees a notable upgrade: the single motor's peak output rises to 95 kW (127 hp), a 40 kW gain over the current top-spec variant — raising the top speed to 150 km/h. The battery is supplied by Shaoxing FinDreams Battery Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of BYD, and uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry built on a 400V low-voltage architecture. It does not support BYD's fast charging technology. However, neither battery capacity nor CLTC all-electric range figures appear in the MIIT filing.
Market Pressure Mounts — Refresh May Be Pivotal
According to China EV DataTracker, the Seagull delivered 8,879 units domestically in July 2026. Once China's best-selling new-energy vehicle, this compact EV has since been overtaken by the GEELY EX2 and Leapmotor B03X. Industry analysts suggest that this comprehensive exterior and interior refresh — combined with rumored intelligent upgrades such as LiDAR — could help reinvigorate consumer interest and reclaim leadership in its segment.
