BYD Qin Max Spy Shots : B-Segment Flash-Charging Sedan with PHEV and BEV Versions

Positioned above the Qin L, equipped with second-generation Blade Battery and 5-minute fast charging

BYD has officially unveiled its new B-segment sedan — the Qin Max — which will serve as the new flagship of the Qin series, positioned above the current Qin L. According to Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD's Dynasty Network Sales Division, the vehicle targets young consumers, with high-power flash charging as its core highlight. The model first appeared in China's MIIT vehicle type approval database last December; however, its launch date and pricing remain unannounced.

Dimensions & Design: A Longer, More Stable B-Segment Stance

The Qin Max measures 4,866 mm (length) × 1,880 mm (width) × 1,495 mm (height), with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. Compared to the Qin L (4,830 mm × 1,900 mm × 1,495 mm, wheelbase 2,790 mm), it is 33 mm longer, slightly narrower, and gains 30 mm in wheelbase — enhancing longitudinal cabin space. Its exterior retains BYD's Dynasty family design language: sharp, upward-sweeping LED headlights, a closed-off front grille, and a three-section front bumper air intake; side profile features semi-concealed door handles and multi-spoke wheels; the rear adopts slim, light-bar-style taillights for a tech-forward look.

Powertrain: Dual PHEV and BEV Offerings

The Qin Max will be available in both plug-in hybrid and battery electric variants:

  • PHEV version: Equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine paired with an electric motor. Engine outputs peak at either 58 kW or 85 kW; the electric motor delivers up to 175 kW (235 hp), matched with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack;
  • BEV version: Offers dual-motor configurations with maximum outputs of 120 kW (161 hp) and 240 kW (322 hp), respectively, paired with battery capacities of 52.868 kWh and 64.315 kWh. CLTC all-electric ranges are 530 km and 630 km, respectively.

Flash Charging: 70% State of Charge in Just 5 Minutes

The Qin Max will feature BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and its dedicated flash-charging system. Based on real-world test data from existing BYD models using similar technology, the vehicle is expected to charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes — and from 10% to 97% in approximately nine minutes. Even under extreme cold conditions of -30°C, charging time increases by no more than three minutes.
