BYD Builds 10,000 1500kW Ultra-Fast Charging Stations in 5 Months, Aiming for 20,000 by Year-End

BYD recently announced that, since officially launching its 1500kW "flash charging" system in March this year, it has completed installation of 10,000 stations nationwide in just five months. This milestone puts the company halfway toward its target of 20,000 stations by the end of 2026 — a pace fully on track with expectations.

The 1500kW flash charging system is specifically engineered for vehicles equipped with BYD's Blade Battery 2.0, enabling a charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes — or 10% to 97% in nine minutes. Rapid deployment of supporting infrastructure is critical to unlocking this performance: even the fastest battery requires equally capable grid and charger-side support.

To date, the ultra-fast charging network covers 325 cities across China. Per plan, BYD will complete a total of 20,000 stations by end-2026 — 18,000 in urban areas and 2,000 along expressways. Notably, the project is being implemented in close collaboration with Sinopec, with flash charging facilities co-located at select gas stations — for example, a pilot station launched this month in Shanghai.

Overseas, BYD has also begun rollout: the first batch of stations officially went live in June 2026. The broader plan includes building 3,000 stations in Europe and another 3,000 across other regions. However, as of now, there is no indication that the 1500kW ultra-fast charging technology will be deployed in the United States. International media analysis suggests that due to regulatory conditions and infrastructure development timelines, no U.S. construction plans have been announced in the near term.
