On August 19, AION officially announced the launch of its new product lineup — Ray series — targeting young users, marking the brand's 10th anniversary. Its debut model, the AION Ray 7, was unveiled simultaneously. Not only does the vehicle debut AION's refreshed brand logo, but it also integrates three core technology systems: a Super Chassis, Super Powertrain (battery, motor, e-axle), and Super Intelligence — signaling AION's strategic leap from a family/ride-hailing-focused brand to a tech-driven, accessible premium pure-electric fastback maker.
Design & Dimensions: Mid-to-Large Fastback with Dual Sport-Tech Identity
The Ray 7 adopts an all-new design language. Its front fascia features a star-ring full-width lighting strip, with the refreshed English logo centered and seamlessly integrated into the light bar. Below the closed-off grille lies a trapezoidal glossy-black air intake, paired with a front splitter and aerodynamic ducts to enhance sportiness. Two exterior colors are offered: Lightning Yellow and Midsummer Purple. The side profile is fastback-styled, featuring semi-concealed door handles, dual five-spoke alloy wheels, and yellow brake calipers. The rear retains a full-width taillight, with the AION logo centered — echoing the front-end design. According to MIIT's official registration data, the vehicle measures 4960 × 1900 × 1455 mm (L×W×H), with a 2920-mm wheelbase — positioning it as a mid-to-large pure-electric fastback.
Chassis & Powertrain: Huawei DriveONE EMB, CATL Battery, and Battery Armor 2.0
Built on a dedicated pure-electric rear-wheel-drive platform and drawing on Alfa Romeo's chassis tuning expertise, the Ray 7 features an aluminum-intensive front double-wishbone suspension and rear five-link setup, FSD adaptive dampers, and front/rear anti-roll bars. Its braking system adopts Huawei HUAWEI DriveONE EMB fully wire-controlled braking, achieving a 100 km/h emergency stop distance of just 33 meters; iTRACK intelligent torque control further enhances stability on wet or slippery surfaces. Power comes from a single Huawei-sourced 180 kW electric motor. The battery pack uses CATL cells and incorporates AION's Battery Armor 2.0 technology, delivering a CLTC all-electric range of up to 700 km.
Intelligent Driving: 27 Sensors + 192-Line LiDAR + WeRide L4–Derived Large Model
The Ray 7 is equipped with 27 automotive-grade, all-around sensors — including a 192-line LiDAR and three 4D millimeter-wave radars. Its intelligent driving system leverages a large model derived from WeRide's L4-level Robotaxi platform, enabling urban village navigation, single-lane U-turns, lane-change overtaking, and end-to-end "parking spot–to–parking spot" autonomous driving. It also supports nearby parking-spot search, automatic gate passage, and high-difficulty automated parking. AION states this high-level intelligent driving system will debut first in the RMB 150,000 segment — and later expand across the RMB 100,000–150,000 price band — fulfilling its commitment to technology accessibility.
Safety Commitment & Competitive Positioning
Leveraging its proven Battery Armor system — already deployed in over 1.5 million vehicles and validated across more than 160 billion kilometers of real-world driving — AION introduces the industry's first "Triple Accountability" pledge: the manufacturer assumes responsibility for thermal runaway of the powertrain/battery, excessive battery degradation, and intelligent parking accidents. In the fiercely contested RMB 200,000–250,000 pure-electric fastback segment, the Ray 7 adopts a differentiated strategy — "class-defying dimensions + accessible technology" — positioned against Xiaomi SU7, ZEEKR 007, and SHANGJIE Z7. Its key advantages lie in a more mature battery safety architecture and potential pricing competitiveness; its main challenges remain brand visibility and ecosystem synergy.
