On June 22, NIO completed delivery of its 120,000th ES8 at its Jiading Nanxiang Delivery Center in Shanghai, setting a new record for delivery speed among premium Chinese vehicles priced at RMB 400,000+. Since its launch in late September 2025, the ES8 achieved this milestone in just 275 days—demonstrating formidable momentum in the premium pure-electric SUV market.

According to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), the NIO ES8 achieved retail sales of 11,472 units in May 2026—securing the top spot in both the large SUV and RMB 400,000+ vehicle segments for the sixth consecutive month. Notably, statistics from China Automotive Terminal show that pure-electric three-row large SUVs continued to lead across all powertrain types in May—outperforming extended-range competitors for nine consecutive months. Since overtaking them in September 2025, consumer preference for pure-electric three-row large SUVs has solidified into a clear trend, signaling an irreversible structural evolution in the market.

Regional performance is equally impressive: In May 2026, NIO ranked first in total passenger vehicle sales (across body styles, powertrains, and price segments) in both Shanghai and Hefei. From January to May, it also led in cumulative sales in both cities. In high-spending regions including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, NIO has topped the large SUV segment for seven consecutive months—with a penetration rate of 63.81% in Shanghai. That means two out of every three large SUVs sold in Shanghai are NIO models, with the ES8 accounting for nearly half of those sales.

Following the 120,000th delivery milestone, NIO announced on June 22 that the new ES8 five-seater variant will open for pre-orders on June 28. This new configuration expands the product lineup and further strengthens NIO’s leadership position in the premium pure-electric SUV segment—accelerating the industry-wide transition of large SUVs toward full electrification.
