Mazda CX-6e Adds LiDAR, Upgrades Urban & Highway NOA Capability

Following its debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, the Mazda CX-6e receives a significant facelift: it now features a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and officially debuts navigation-assisted driving (NOA), covering both highway and urban road scenarios. This variant is branded EZ-60 in the Chinese market and has entered pre-order phase — though final pricing remains unannounced.

LiDAR Boosts Intelligent Driving Capabilities

The most notable upgrade is the standard-fit roof-mounted LiDAR unit, paired with three millimeter-wave radars, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and eleven cameras. According to official claims, this sensor suite enables L2+ intelligent driving across over 200 assisted-driving scenarios. The system operates at speeds from 0–130 km/h on highways and 0–80 km/h in urban environments, supporting functions including automatic ramp entry/exit, service-area navigation, autonomous lane changes and overtaking, unprotected left turns, roundabout traversal, automatic U-turns, main-road-to-side-road switching, and emergency evasive lane changes. It also supports Farizon parking, memory parking, and path-following parking.

Notably, Mazda has not disclosed the specific LiDAR supplier. Meanwhile, the high-spec version of its platform sibling DEEPAL S07 already adopts Huawei's Qiankun ADS intelligent driving system — including LiDAR — suggesting potential technical synergy.

Dual Powertrains: BEV & Extended-Range EV, Clear Platform & Battery Specs

The CX-6e was jointly developed by Changan and Mazda, built on Changan's EPA1 pure-electric platform. The battery-electric variant uses a 77.94 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery co-supplied by CATL and Changan, delivering a CLTC all-electric range of 585–600 km. It employs a single rear-mounted motor producing 190 kW (255 hp), with a top speed of 185 km/h and 3C fast charging capability — recharging from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes.

The extended-range variant pairs a 1.5 L naturally aspirated engine (72 kW / 97 hp) as a range extender with the same 190 kW rear motor and a 31.73 kWh LFP battery, offering a CLTC all-electric range of 200 km and matching top speed of 185 km/h.

Design & Sales: Aligning With New Energy Brands, NEV Share Surpasses 50%

The interior abandons Mazda's traditional button-heavy layout entirely, embracing minimalist interaction: the center console integrates a 26.45-inch 5K full-width display, while the instrument cluster area features a 50-inch AR-HUD (with a 100-inch option available on higher trims). Its drag coefficient is optimized to 0.258 — approaching that of Xiaomi YU7 (0.245) and Xpeng G9 (0.272).

According to China New Energy Vehicle Data Tracking, the CX-6e (marketed as EZ-60) delivered 2,929 units domestically in July 2026. Combined with the sedan variant 6e (EZ-6), Mazda's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales in China now account for over 50% of its total sales — making it a rare joint venture brand achieving "NEV sales surpassing ICE sales."
