Kia EV3 Officially Launches in the U.S.: Starting at $29,890, One of the Most Affordable Electric SUVs

In August just concluded, Kia America achieved a record-breaking monthly sales volume of 83,793 units — a 1% year-on-year increase; cumulative sales for the first eight months reached 590,377 units, up 3% YoY. All six core models — the KIA Seltos (+53%), KIA Carnival (+13%), K4 (+7%), Telluride (+4%), Sportage (+4%), and K5 (+4%) — posted new all-time highs for the period. Hybrid and electrified models delivered especially strong performance, with sales surging 99% and 36% YoY, respectively.

Notably, battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) remain on an upward trajectory: In August, EV6 and EV9 sales stood at 712 and 1,789 units respectively — down 60% and 33% YoY. However, the all-new compact electric SUV — the 2027 Kia EV3 — has quietly entered the market and delivered 6 units that month. With a starting price of just $29,890 (approx. RMB 216,000), it ranks among the most affordable production electric SUVs currently available in the U.S., directly competing with the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Nissan LEAF.

Eric Watson, Kia America's Vice President of Sales and Operations, stated: "With the EV3 joining our lineup, Kia is well positioned to sustain full-year sales growth and potentially achieve a fourth consecutive annual sales record."

The 2027 EV3 is offered in five trims — Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT — with both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) options. The base Light FWD variant features a 58.3 kWh battery and delivers an EPA-estimated range of 221 miles (~356 km); higher trims upgrade to an 81.4 kWh battery, enabling up to 321 miles (~517 km) of EPA range (280 miles / ~451 km for AWD). All variants come standard with the native NACS charging port, enabling direct connection to Tesla's Supercharger network without adapters.

For fast charging, the 58.3 kWh battery supports 10–80% state-of-charge (SOC) in just 29 minutes (at 350 kW DC), while the 81.4 kWh version requires approximately 31 minutes. Although large-scale U.S. delivery data remains unavailable, the EV3 has already ranked among the best-selling electric vehicles in overseas markets including the UK and Europe — its localized performance warrants continued attention.
