Design: minimalism and technology, details reveal craftsmanship
The 2026 AITO M6 retains the brand's signature design language. The ENOVATE blue paintwork, set against the backdrop of Hyundai buildings , emphasizes restraint and dynamism. The front end features a closed grille and a full-width LED strip, while the active grille opens and closes logically, striking a balance between aerodynamics and visual integrity. The side body lines are smooth, while the floating roof and hidden door handles enhance the electric SUV's distinctive appearance. The rear end features full-width taillights with clear, logical indicators and a highly recognizable illumination.

The interior is dominated by a combination of orange and black, creating an ambiance of sportiness and premium appeal. The center console is slightly angled toward the driver; the three-screen interactive system consists of a 15.6-inch 2.5K multimedia display, a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, and a 16:9 display for the front passenger. The elliptical steering wheel offers a secure grip; the seats are upholstered in perforated leather and Alcantara, providing both support and ventilation. Remarkably, the interior is virtually devoid of unnecessary physical buttons: all functions are integrated into the HUAWEI HiCar ecosystem.

Engine: Extended-range system is smooth but not the focus of the test
The AITO M6 Ultra, a model with an extended range, is being tested . It consists of a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder generator-motor and an electric traction motor. The manufacturer does not specify exact power and torque figures, focusing only on the operating logic: "pure electric mode in the city, extended-range mode for long-distance driving." In practice, noise levels in electric mode are minimal, acceleration is linear; when the generator is engaged, vibrations and noise are controlled correctly, without sudden surges. However, it should be emphasized: the primary focus of this test is the capabilities of the intelligent driving system, not the dynamic performance of the powertrain.
Intelligence: ADS MAX in action – 16 out of 20 scenarios completed
The AITO M6 Ultra, a long-range model , is equipped with the HUAWEI Qiankun ADSADS MAX intelligent driving system (software version 4.10.3.1). The hardware includes a forward-facing lidar with a resolution of 896 lines (4 times higher than a 192-line lidar), a rear-facing solid-state lidar, five 4D radars, eleven cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors. The software utilizes the WEWA architecture: a cloud-based "moving world model" for training and real-world on-board decision-making based on the behavioral model.

We conducted a 50-kilometer test drive along the "Intelligent Test: Jinhua and Beijing" route during Beijing's evening rush hour , covering 20 typical complex intelligent driving scenarios. The results are as follows:
- ✅ Independent exit from underground parking, left turn without traffic lights, driving on secondary roads, waiting in a left-turn zone, left turn with lane selection, driving in residential areas, right turn followed by sequential lane changes and a U-turn under an overpass, driving at an interchange with a combined flow of cars and bicycles, driving on a coastal road, reversible lanes, entering and exiting overpasses, independently passing a toll booth (exit), exiting onto a main road taking into account priority + a sharp turn on an overpass, independent entry into an underground parking lot - a total of 14 scenarios completed;
- ✅ Scenarios #5 (waiting in the left turn zone) and #12 (reversible lanes) were completed, but the driving strategy was overly conservative, and the moment of lane change was late, which requires revision;
- ❌ Autonomous driving in a closed complex, a three-point turn, driving on an extremely narrow road, and a roundabout under an overpass—only four scenarios were not completed: the system requested driver intervention or was unable to activate the autonomous driving function.
Overall, ADS MAX demonstrates mature performance in complex intersections with multiple road users, multi-target forecasting, and defensive driving. The system handles frequent and risky scenarios particularly well, such as left turns without signaling and driving through residential areas. However, in closed complexes without map support, in extremely narrow spaces, and at roundabouts with numerous obstacles, the system still requires manual control. Frequent downshifts and constant voice notifications place increased demands on the driver's concentration.

Price: from 279,800 yuan, the cost of the smart driving option is high
The recommended retail price of the AITO M6 Ultra model with an extended range is 279,800 yuan. This price already includes the HUAWEI Qiankun ADSADS MAX smart driving system. It's worth noting that ADS MAX is a premium package, priced higher than the ADS PRO version, and with software version 7.1, the overall price of the smart driving features has been increased. For budget-conscious buyers, the question of whether it's worth paying tens of thousands of yuan extra for smart driving features requires careful consideration of their frequency of use in real-world conditions.
Bottom line: strong perception, stable execution, but still far from a "true autopilot"
Among production cars with intelligent driving systems, the AITO M6 with ADS MAX ranks first: the system reliably assists on most open city roads, and is particularly effective in challenging Chinese traffic conditions. However, "usable" is not the same as "trustworthy." In four key scenarios, the system still requires driver intervention, highlighting its reliance on map data and its lack of versatility in extreme conditions. It's an excellent "experienced driver assistant," not an "autonomous brain" replacing the human driver. If you strive for a high level of intelligent driving and have the budget, the M6 Ultra is worth considering. If your daily driving is primarily on highways, the ADS PRO version may be a more cost-effective option. Regarding rumors of an update to the major ADS 5.0 version, there is no exact launch date yet, but we will continue to monitor the news.
