Xpeng's Humanoid Robot IRON Secures Over $900M in Series A Funding

Post-money valuation exceeds $6.3B; mass production slated for end-2026, global delivery in 2027

On August 24, Xpeng Group officially announced the completion of the Series A funding round for its humanoid robot business, raising over $900 million and achieving a post-money valuation exceeding $6.3 billion — setting a new record for single-round private equity financing in China's embodied intelligence sector.

The round was led by IDG Capital, with GSR Ventures participating, and backed strategically by Tencent and Alibaba. Xpeng emphasized that all investors are leading global institutions deeply committed to embodied intelligence, and the funds will be primarily allocated toward hardware and software R&D, iteration of its Physical AI models, high-quality data acquisition, construction of an end-to-end mass-production facility, and global commercial expansion.

The flagship product of Xpeng's robotics division is named IRON — a high-end humanoid robot platform positioned as "ultra-humanlike, AI-driven, and automotive-grade safe." According to official details, IRON features 76 degrees of freedom (DOF) across its body, with 21 DOF per hand; it adopts an industry-first fully encapsulated flexible lattice structure, balancing aesthetics and passive safety; and achieves full-stack in-house development across its physical body, "brain" (AI chip), "cerebellum" (motion control), data system, and underlying infrastructure.

In terms of compute power, IRON integrates three Turing AI chips, delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of effective edge-side compute. Xpeng's Physical AI large model has already been deployed on-device, enabling controller-free operation, natural-language and gesture-based interaction, ultra-low-latency local inference, and strict on-device data privacy.

He Xiaopeng, Founder of Xpeng, stated: "This robot will differ fundamentally from every other robot on the market — more humanlike, safer, remote-control-free, naturally interactive, and equipped with its own memory." IRON is scheduled to enter mass production by end-2026, initially deployed in Xpeng's proprietary retail stores and campuses; global launch and delivery — including in China and overseas markets — are planned for 2027.

Notably, following the closing of this financing round, Xpeng Group retains majority control of the robotics business, which remains consolidated within the Group's financial statements.
