TOYOTA denies further delay of Granvia EV launch, still targets 2027 delivery

TOYOTA Automotive has responded to recent rumors about another postponement of its first three-row all-electric SUV — the Granvia EV (Highlander EV). The company confirmed that the vehicle's market launch remains scheduled for 2027, with no change to that timeline.

According to a September 3 report by Nikkei Asia, TOYOTA has pushed back the Granvia EV's launch to "2027 or later" and concurrently delayed its mass production plan at the Georgetown plant in Kentucky, USA. Production — originally slated to begin in the second half of 2026 — is now expected to start no earlier than January 2027. The report states that TOYOTA has formally informed select suppliers of this adjustment.

In July, TOYOTA confirmed to Cars.com that the Granvia EV's debut would be delayed by "at least eight weeks" to accommodate "additional refinements." At that time, the official stance still pointed to an early-2027 launch. The broader timeframe now cited by Nikkei underscores growing uncertainty around the project's schedule.

Notably, this delay affects only the all-electric variant. The current 2026 model year Granvia gasoline and hybrid models will remain on sale and are expected to stay in production through 2027. Meanwhile, the Subaru Getaway — a three-row EV sharing the same TNGA-K electric platform — has also been postponed; both models will be built on the same production line.

Based on available information, the 2027 Granvia EV will be offered in XLE and Limited trims, with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options. Two battery packs will be available: 77 kWh and 95.8 kWh. The XLE FWD variant delivers a CLTC all-electric range of 287 miles (~462 km); the XLE and Limited AWD variants equipped with the larger battery achieve 320 miles (~515 km); the 77 kWh AWD version offers 270 miles (~435 km).

The cabin features TOYOTA's new Audio Multimedia system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It includes a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment display.

As of now, TOYOTA has not announced the final pricing, exact launch month, or initial delivery schedule for the Granvia EV. With competitors rapidly expanding their three-row all-electric SUV portfolios, whether this model can fill the gap as planned remains to be seen.
