Chery Jaguar Land Rover Unveil Freelander 8: 46.3-Inch 8K Cockpit Debuts

Chery Jaguar Land Rover has previewed the intelligent cockpit system of the all-new mid-to-large SUV — the Freelander 8 — drawing industry attention. Scheduled for official launch in the second half of 2026, the vehicle's headline feature is a globally pioneering "cinema-grade" human-machine interface (HMI), officially described as "defining the next generation of in-vehicle visual experience."

According to Wen Fei, CEO of the Freelander brand and Executive Deputy General Manager of CJLR, the Freelander 8 adopts the "Freelander Continent" design language, integrating day-to-night natural transition logic and debuting the "surrounding panoramic gallery" display concept — currently billed as the world's largest in-vehicle surround-view interactive layout. Users can directly control central door locks, power sunshades, power tailgates, and charging port covers via the central touchscreen, while also accessing quick-launch shortcuts for music, AI assistants, and various scenario-based functions.

The system includes preset modes such as Rest Mode, Cinema Mode, Camping Mode, Pet Mode, Child Mode, and an immersive acoustic system; it also enables adjustment of fragrance intensity and fog lamp status, plus one-touch activation of seat massage, zero-gravity seating posture, and electric third-row seat folding.

On the hardware side, the Freelander 8 features a 46.3-inch ultra-wide display spanning 1.2 meters, with 8K resolution and peak brightness of 1,000 nits, implemented in a floating touch-control design. The entire system is powered by Qualcomm's automotive-grade Snapdragon 8397 chip.

In terms of body architecture, the Freelander 8 is positioned as a full-size, boxy SUV, measuring 5,118 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,898 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,040 mm. It adopts a 2+2+2 six-seat configuration and offers a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg. For intelligent driving, the roof integrates an 896-line LiDAR manufactured by Huawei, paired with the Huawei ADS 4.1 advanced driver-assistance system.

The powertrain combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine delivering a maximum output of 115 kW (154 hp), mated to a 60.33 kWh battery pack composed of CATL's NMC lithium-ion cells. Its WLTC all-electric range stands at 221 km. Motor specifications remain undisclosed.

Notably, CJLR is accelerating its brand-strategy transformation. According to China EV DataTracker, CJLR's deliveries of vehicles assembled in China reached 3,283 units in June 2026 — a staggering 228.3% year-on-year increase. Analysts attribute this surge primarily to aggressive inventory-clearance discounts — for instance, the Range Rover Evoque price was slashed by $33,945 — paving the way for Freelander's independent brand operations.
