BYD Song L GT Spotted Unmasked: New Electric GT SUV Emerges

Camouflage-free production model revealed; three powertrain options registered, Blade Battery 2.0 and fast charging rumored

Following the 2023 launch of the Song L EV, BYD's all-new electric GT model — the Song L GT — has appeared on public roads fully uncamouflaged for the first time. According to real-world photos shared by Weibo blogger SugarDesign, the vehicle has completed its MIIT new-model registration, though BYD has yet to disclose key details such as pricing, battery specifications, or official launch timing.

The Song L GT is built upon the current Song L EV platform, retaining the same dimensions: 4,840 mm long, 1,950 mm wide, and 1,560 mm tall, with a 2,930 mm wheelbase. Positioned as a midsize all-electric SUV, it is slightly larger than the TeslaModel 3. Externally, the model adopts a coupe-style crossover design, featuring a revised front fascia and a new 'GT' badge at the rear to emphasize its sporty character.

Registration documents filed with MIIT list three powertrain configurations: two single-motor variants delivering peak outputs of 170 kW (228 hp) and 230 kW (308 hp), respectively — with maximum torque figures undisclosed; and one dual-motor AWD version producing a combined system output of 390 kW (523 hp). Notably, the original text does not specify corresponding torque values, nor does it clarify battery capacity, CLTC all-electric range, or charging parameters per variant — so no assumptions are made here.

The currently available Song L EV starts at RMB 189,800, offering up to 662 km (411 miles) of CLTC all-electric range. Industry speculation suggests the Song L GT may adopt BYD's next-generation Blade Battery 2.0 and fast charging technology to boost range and enable '5-minute fast charging' — but this remains unconfirmed and stems solely from rumors. Some analysts note that ramp-up timelines for the new battery's production capacity could delay the Song L GT's mass-production schedule.

As BYD's latest foray into the high-performance all-electric market, whether the Song L GT can replicate the Song L EV's commercial momentum remains uncertain — pending further official announcements. The vehicle is currently in the post-registration, pre-launch phase, and is not yet available for customer orders.
