Buick Electra E7 to Export Overseas for First Time, Shipping from China Starting in October

General Motors and SAIC Motor Group announced that their joint venture, SAIC Motor GM, will begin exporting domestically produced Buick new-energy vehicles — the Electra E7 — to overseas markets starting in October 2026. This marks a new phase of global expansion following the extension of the joint venture's 20-year partnership through 2047.

According to official disclosures, SAIC Motor GM will launch overseas shipments of the Buick Electra E7 this October, with initial deliveries headed to select markets including the Middle East, Africa, South America, Mexico, and the Asia-Pacific region. The Electra E7 is the first production SUV under the Buick Electra sub-brand, launched in China in April 2026 as a midsize plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).

Built on the Xiao Yao Super Architecture, the Electra E7 pairs a 1.5-liter engine with a 165 kW electric motor and a 32.6 kWh battery pack. It delivers a CLTC-rated all-electric range of 230 km and a maximum combined range of 1,630 km. Three trim levels are offered, with official retail prices ranging from RMB 154,900 to RMB 194,900.

Interior features emphasize luxury and intelligence: a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen, a 15.6-inch rear-seat entertainment screen, zero-gravity seats, a 20-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system, and an in-car refrigerator are all included. Notably, the Electra E7 surpassed 10,000 units in sales during its first month on the market — setting a new record for monthly sales of new-energy vehicles by a Chinese joint venture automaker.

As a core product of the Buick Electra series, the E7 also serves as the vanguard for SAIC Motor GM's overseas expansion under its "dual-brand focus on Buick and Cadillac" strategy. John Ross, of GM China and Senior Vice Quattroporte of GM Global, stated that this extended collaboration "reflects both parties' shared confidence in SAIC Motor GM's long-term growth potential." However, specific export countries, right-hand-drive adaptation progress, and overseas pricing have not yet been disclosed and remain subject to future announcements.
