Kalmar Ottawa, a leader in diesel forklifts for internal transport for decades, is accelerating its transition to electric mobility. As global logistics fleets continue to strive to reduce operating costs and minimize risks associated with fluctuating diesel prices, the new all-electric version of the T2 EV truck has officially launched in Canada and has begun commercial operation in real-world conditions.

With support from Transport Canada's "Zero Emission Medium and Heavy-Duty Vehicle Promotion Program," Canadian logistics operator WTC Group has already begun deploying several Kalmar Ottawa T2 EV units. This model is not a concept prototype, but a production terminal tractor specifically designed for intensive use in port complexes and large logistics hubs, designed to maintain the reputation of the classic diesel T2 for reliability and performance.

Brad Gordon, Head of Technical Services at WTC Group, noted: "Innovation has always been a central element of our operational strategy. As customer demand for sustainable logistics solutions grows, investing in electric terminal tractors is a natural step to improve efficiency while also making a significant contribution to environmental responsibility."

According to official information, the T2 EV is equipped with a continuous power DC synchronous motor with a peak output of 454 kW (approx. 610 hp); the battery system is a modular lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 105 kWh, 140 kWh or 210 kWh; the maximum permissible gross vehicle weight is 88,450 kg (approx. 195,000 lbs), which fully meets the requirements of heavy-duty transportation in container terminals and multimodal hubs.

James Laibold, Kalmar's Zero-Emission Vehicle Sales Manager, emphasized: "The T2 EV is the culmination of years of research and development at Kalmar Ottawa. Our goal is to offer a premium electric vehicle worthy of the legendary reputation of the diesel-powered T2. We not only created the Hyundai terminal tractor category (in 1943), but we also strive to define the future of this category in the electric era."

At this time, the exact amount of the iMHZEV subsidy received by the WTC Group and the number of initially deployed vehicles have not been disclosed.
