Chery Automotive recently officially launched its "Rhino Battery Safety Assurance Program," providing technical backing for its recently announced lifetime battery warranty policy. As reported by media outlets including Sina, the program covers all passenger vehicle electric platforms and aims to ensure battery system safety under extreme operating conditions through a multi-layered validation system far exceeding current national standards. It explicitly pledges: should thermal runaway caused by the battery result in vehicle damage, a full vehicle replacement will be provided directly.

The program builds upon Chery's multi-year, RMB 10 billion RMB (approx. USD 147 million) battery R&D initiative. Its technical framework not only supports current BEV and PHEV models but also serves as the foundational safety architecture for upcoming new platforms — including the Fulwin A9 sedan and Fulwin T7 crossover.
At the structural safety level, the battery pack housing withstands continuous 1,500-joule bottom impacts — 10 times the latest national standard limit; individual cells pass simultaneous ten-needle penetration testing with zero smoke or flame. Furthermore, the entire hardware assembly must survive triple combined testing — crush, immersion, and nail penetration — without triggering thermal runaway.
Manufacturing rigor is equally stringent: electrode coating production lines operate within dedicated cleanrooms, maintaining ambient air ≥0.5-micron particle concentration at just 40 particles per cubic meter; a 100-meter-long maglev logistics line enables fully contactless transport, eliminating friction-induced contamination risks.
Notably, this production-ready system is also positioned as a critical transitional pathway toward solid-state battery commercialization. Chery has filed key engineering patents for sulfide-based solid electrolytes to address material degradation challenges; internal R&D targets future mass-production vehicles achieving up to 600 Wh/kg energy density.
Prior real-world data further validates reliability: a 43,000-vehicle test fleet has accumulated over 1.2 billion kilometers of cumulative driving — with zero battery fire incidents recorded. This proven operational baseline supports the rollout of both liquid and semi-solid-state battery iterations — and paves the way for fully solid-state platforms.
It's worth noting that this high-intensity safety investment coincides with mounting domestic sales pressure on Chery. According to China EV DataTracker, its passenger vehicle brand's monthly domestic deliveries declined from 51,417 units in June 2025 to 31,738 units in May 2026 — a 34.8% year-on-year drop — and market share narrowed to 2.1%. Against this backdrop, the commercial strategy centered on "lifetime battery warranty + full vehicle replacement" has become a pivotal move to stabilize brand trust and directly address consumer safety concerns.
