Buick New GL8 Lushang Launches: Starts at ¥229,900, Family-Focused PHEV MPV

The all-new Buick GL8 Lushang series officially launched today as a new plug-in hybrid MPV lineup targeting the family-use segment within the GL8 family. The model is offered in two trims, with official manufacturer suggested retail prices of ¥249,900 and ¥269,900 — available at limited-time launch prices of ¥229,900 and ¥249,900 respectively.

The exterior retains the classic GL8 design language with no major revisions. Upgrades focus primarily on cabin quality and ride comfort. For the first time, the interior features the 'Prosperous Journey' warm brown-and-orange dual-tone theme; all seats and door panels adopt diamond-stitch quilting, with a total of 20,000 precisely placed stitches — each spaced exactly 4.5 mm apart — a craftsmanship level notably refined among MPVs in this price bracket.

Second-row aviation seats are standard across all trims, offering heating, ventilation, and power-adjustable leg rests. The Premium trim adds an 8-point massage function. Seatbacks recline up to 160° for near-flat relaxation, while leg rests elevate up to 60°. Integrated damping shock absorbers inside the seat structure help suppress lateral sway during lane changes — enhancing comfort and reducing motion sickness for elderly passengers and children.

The third-row seats feature a rare full-size layout in this class: shoulder room reaches 1,480 mm, comfortably accommodating three adults side-by-side. Backrests offer multi-stage adjustment up to 135° and include ISOFIX child seat anchors. With all seven seats occupied, the trunk still fits nine 20-inch suitcases; the vehicle offers 46 storage compartments total, and trunk capacity expands up to 1,650 L. A full-width front floor design allows easy entry/exit for front-passenger occupants when the driver's door is obstructed.

The powertrain adopts the latest 'True Dragon' PHEV architecture, pairing a 1.5T engine with a 2-speed DHT transmission. System output delivers a peak 275 kW and 560 N·m, enabling sub-7-second 0–100 km/h acceleration. Under CLTC conditions, it achieves a 142 km all-electric range and a total system range of 1,500 km; WLTC fuel consumption in charge-sustaining mode is 6.35 L/100 km. It also supports 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) external power output — ideal for camping and other outdoor power needs.

With 27 years of MPV R&D expertise, Buick positions the GL8 Lushang as a 'family-oriented comfortable PHEV MPV', leveraging proven chassis tuning and strong brand recognition to enter the fiercely competitive ¥200,000-tier new-energy MPV market. However, in smart cockpit capabilities and advanced intelligent driving functions, it still has room for improvement compared to leading domestic new-energy MPVs. Its market breakthrough will hinge on whether the 'comfort-as-luxury' differentiation resonates strongly with family buyers.
