Subaru OUTBACK Wilderness Edition Makes China Debut: 2.4T + X-Mode + 241mm Ground Clearance

Recently, the Subaru OUTBACK Wilderness Edition made its first public appearance in China. Designed for light off-roading and outdoor adventures, this special edition is not an all-new model but a limited-run variant of the current-generation OUTBACK — enhanced for improved off-road capability and distinctive visual identity. It remains in the showcase phase, with no pre-order or launch timeline announced.

Exterior design features an exclusive large-mesh front grille with a matte-black brand logo, flanked by bold gloss-black trim strips and a split-type LED headlight assembly. The front bumper is fitted with a robust black protective skid plate, while the air intakes receive matte-black treatment — collectively reinforcing a rugged, purpose-built aesthetic. On the side profile, matte-black cladding accents the wheel arches, and the roof rack incorporates yellow highlights. At the rear, a roof spoiler and reinforced black rear bumper further emphasize its off-road character. Overall dimensions measure 4870 × 1880 × 1735 mm, with a 2745-mm wheelbase and increased ground clearance of 241 mm, paired with adaptive dampers.

The interior retains Subaru's latest digital layout, featuring a 12.1-inch horizontal center touchscreen and a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The interface supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, and wireless charging is standard. Gold-accented trim appears across the center console, door panels, and seat stitching, complemented by embroidered 'Wilderness' badges — underscoring its unique positioning.

Powertrain carries over the 2.4L turbocharged horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine, delivering peak output of 194 kW and maximum torque of 375 N·m. It's mated to a CVT automatic transmission and comes standard with Subaru's Symmetrical AWD system. The vehicle also integrates the X-Mode intelligent driving assist system, offering dedicated drive modes — including Snow, Dirt, and Mud — to enhance traction, stability, and obstacle-clearing capability on low-grip surfaces.
