CheryJaguarLand Rover Freelander 8 Surpasses 10,000 Pre-orders in 48 Hours

The all-new mid-to-large-size extended-range electric SUV — Freelander 8 — launched by Freelander, the independent brand under CheryJaguarLand Rover, opened pre-sales on August 14 and secured over 10,000 pre-order registrations within just 48 hours. These figures reflect pre-sale intent registrations only and have not yet been converted into confirmed delivery orders.

Freelander 8 is offered in both five- and six-seat configurations. The five-seat variant starts at ¥339,900 (approx. $50,400), while the six-seat version starts at ¥349,900 (approx. $51,900). Notably, although jointly developed by CheryJaguarLand Rover, the vehicle does not bear the Land Rover brand logo and is marketed exclusively under the independent Freelander brand.

Powertrain-wise, Freelander 8 adopts an 800V Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) architecture comprising a 1.5T four-cylinder range extender and dual motors. Official specs claim a system-wide peak output of 610 kW (818 hp) and maximum torque of 813 N·m; the rear axle features a 250 kW dual-speed electric drive motor. The battery pack is a 60.3 kWh ternary lithium unit from CATL's Freevoy series, delivering a CLTC all-electric range of 310 km. It supports 6C fast charging, enabling a charge from 20% to 80% in just 12 minutes.

Chassis configuration balances luxury and off-road capability: dual-chamber air suspension, continuously variable damping control, front mechanical differential lock, and rear-wheel steering (up to 10 degrees max steering angle). Overall dimensions measure 5118 mm × 2050 mm × 1898 mm, with a wheelbase of 3040 mm; when the electric tow hitch is deployed, overall length extends to 5185 mm. The six-seat layout follows a 2+2+2 configuration, with second-row heated zero-gravity seats, detachable Harman Kardon headrest speakers, and multi-point charging ports (11 total across the vehicle).

The intelligent cockpit is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 chip. The center console features a 15.6-inch MINI LED horizontal display, complemented by physical function buttons. A standard-fit 17.3-inch overhead rear-seat entertainment screen is included. All trims come standard with Huawei Qiankun A DS 5 intelligent driving assistance, though official details on sensor hardware configuration remain undisclosed, and no third-party real-world performance validation has been published to date.

The vehicle officially rolled off the production line on July 30 at CheryJaguarLand Rover's Changshu plant in Jiangsu Province. Concurrently, the Freelander brand announced its long-term target: aiming for global annual sales of 300,000 units within three to five years. This figure represents a strategic aspiration — not an already achieved milestone.
