As BYD's current lowest-priced pure electric vehicle, the Seagull (sold overseas as Dolphin Surf / Dolphin MINI) is undergoing a significant facelift. According to multiple sources, the 2026 model Seagull has completed new-vehicle registration in MIIT, and key upgrade details are gradually emerging via spy shots and official information.

Longer Dimensions, Sharper Positioning
Registration documents indicate the new Seagull measures 4,205 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm — significantly longer than the current model's 3,780 mm length. Its proportions now better align with those of a compact hatchback, potentially improving interior space and practicality.
Interior Refresh: Single Large Screen + Retained Physical Controls
Latest spy photos from ThinkerCar confirm a completely redesigned dashboard: the original dual-screen layout is replaced by a single, significantly larger central touchscreen; the passenger-side area is also refined, resulting in cleaner, more streamlined dashboard contours. Notably, physical function buttons remain beneath the screen, and the steering-wheel controls retain their tactile, button-based layout — balancing usability with local user preferences.

Powertrain & Intelligent Driving: 95 kW Motor + Roof-Mounted LiDAR
The powertrain upgrade is confirmed: maximum output rises from the current 55 kW to 95 kW (≈127 hp). However, the original text does not specify torque, battery capacity, or range figures — so no direct correlations are drawn. Separately, Zhang Zhuo, BYD's Ocean Network sales director, previously posted an ambiguous teaser image on social media suggesting a roof-mounted LiDAR unit, potentially enabling higher-level ADAS features — though official confirmation and functional details remain pending.
The currently available 2026 Seagull offers two battery options — 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh — with CLTC all-electric ranges of 305 km and 405 km, respectively. Whether the updated model retains these packs — or adopts upgraded battery technology, Blade Battery, or fast-charging capability — remains unconfirmed and is currently only speculative.

Market Rollout: Domestic Launch First, Export Timing Undecided
The vehicle's starting price remains at RMB 69,900 (≈USD 10,000), preserving its title as the world's most affordable pure electric car. In H1 2026, the Seagull series — including Dolphin MINI and Surf — ranked sixth globally in EV sales volume; this refresh is expected to further strengthen its competitiveness. The new model is slated for initial launch in the Chinese market, while overseas release timing and naming strategy have yet to be announced.
