BYD's new all-electric flagship sedan — the 'Datang' — has been spotted for the first time undergoing real-world street testing, with its exterior design fully exposed. The vehicle belongs to the Dynasty series and is classified as a top-of-the-range D-category sedan, being the sedan version sibling to the flagship SUV 'Datang', scheduled to officially debut at the Chengdu International Automobile Fair from August 21-30, 2026.

According to Lu Tian, general manager of BYD 's Dynasty series , the vehicle has already received approval in the new energy model batch of the 'Announcement on Motor Vehicle Companies and Products for Road Use', issued by MIIT, confirming a maximum range of 1008 km in the CLTC cycle. Although detailed battery parameters have not yet been released, the manufacturer confirmed that the car will be equipped with BYD 's new generation Blade 2.0 battery and fast-charging technology.
According to reports, the battery system supports ultra-fast charging up to 1500 kW, allowing it to recharge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes and from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes. Its dimensions are 5256 mm × 1999 mm × 1510 mm, with a wheelbase of 3130 mm — surpassing both the Tesla Model S and the Lucid Air, and approaching the long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
In terms of performance, the vehicle will offer two configurations: rear-wheel drive with a single motor and all-wheel drive with two motors. The single-motor version delivers a maximum power of 370 kW (496 hp); while the all-wheel drive version with two motors reaches a maximum combined power of 570 kW (764 hp). It is worth noting that this model is part of the same top-of-the-range line as the Datang SUV, which is already in pre-sale and has accumulated more than 100,000 orders after its launch at the Beijing trade fair , with an initial pre-sale price of 250,000 yuan.
Lu Tian posted several official images on social media, stating: "More surprises will be revealed at the Chengdu Auto Show." To date, no official price or launch schedule has been released; its market position and pricing strategy are still subject to further information.
