Recently, Xpeng's all-new SUV — the Mona L05 — was spotted in China, drawing widespread market attention. As the third model in Xpeng's Mona Volkswagen-branded lineup, the L05 will follow closely behind the M03 sedan and L03 crossover, with a global launch expected before year-end 2026.

According to previously disclosed information from MIIT, the Mona L05 is positioned as a midsize electric SUV, measuring 4870 × 1930 × 1636 mm with a wheelbase of 2940 mm. Its exterior retains the Mona family design language: a closed-off front fascia, Y-shaped LED headlights, and a fastback-style hood line; it also features semi-concealed door handles, a floating roof, and a full-width taillight. The prototype vehicle wears a light-colored body finish, rear window privacy glass, yellow brake calipers, and blind-spot monitoring cameras mounted on the front fenders.

The interior continues the minimalist aesthetic: a large central touchscreen dominates the dashboard, paired with a two-spoke oval steering wheel and an electronic gear selector behind it. The center console flows with soft, organic curves and includes wireless charging, dual cupholders, and generous storage space; door panels maintain the same clean, unified design.
Powertrain options include a rear-mounted single-motor EV variant delivering up to 183 kW (245 hp), paired with a 71.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for a CLTC all-electric range of 615–660 km. The extended-range version uses the same motor, augmented by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine (70 kW / 94 hp) acting as a range extender, and a smaller 37.2 kWh battery offering a CLTC pure-electric range of 237–253 km.

Xpeng is accelerating its global expansion strategy for the Mona series. After the Mona L03 SUV's global debut in 2026 — simultaneously launched in China and overseas markets — the L05 could become another pivotal piece in that plan. The L03 currently retails in China for ¥123,800–¥156,800. Industry data shows Xpeng sold 165,977 units globally in H1 2026, down 15.8% year-on-year. Against this backdrop, whether the L05 can serve as a new growth catalyst overseas remains to be seen.
